Our Catford nursery are looking for Nursery Assistants and Nursery Nurses to work as bank staff covering shifts working on a zero hours contract.Benefits on offer include:

The ideal candidate must have:

  • A full & relevant Level 2 or above qualification in Early Years
  • Experience working in a nursery
  • An interest in working with young children (from 0-5 years)
  • Team player
  • Strong communication skills both written and verbal
  • Ability to use initiative
  • A passion for the Early Years

Key Responsibilities

Bank staff in a nursery setting provide flexible support and cover for permanent staff as needed. Their role is crucial in maintaining high-quality care and education for children. Below are the key responsibilities:

  • Supervise and engage with children in play and learning activities.
  • Follow the Early Years Foundation Stage (EYFS) framework to support children's development.
  • Encourage children’s independence, confidence, and social skills.
  • Support children's personal care needs, including toileting, nappy changing, and handwashing.
  • Ensure children's safety and follow safeguarding policies at all times.
  • Report any concerns regarding children's welfare to the designated safeguarding lead.
  • Maintain a secure and nurturing environment for all children.

Daily Routine Support

  • Assist in setting up and tidying learning environments, both indoors and outdoors.
  • Support mealtimes by helping children eat, ensuring good hygiene, and supervising safely.
  • Help settle children during nap times and transitions between activities.

  • Follow instructions from senior staff and work collaboratively with the nursery team.
  • Build positive relationships with children, parents, and colleagues.
  • Adapt quickly to different rooms, age groups, and routines as required.

  • Follow all nursery policies, including hygiene, fire safety, and risk assessments.
  • Keep play and learning areas clean and organized.
  • Be aware of and support children with allergies, dietary requirements, or medical needs.

  • Be adaptable to cover shifts at short notice.
  • Maintain a professional attitude and uphold the nursery’s values.
  • Follow confidentiality policies regarding children and families.
