We are seeking a highly motivated and experienced Nurse Unit Manager for our Special Care Nursery based at our Fitzroy campus. Reporting to the Maternity Services Manager you will be responsible for day-to-day operations and overall management of the Special Care Nursery, which is a 12 bed unit caring for babies of 32 weeks gestation and above.

ABOUT YOUR NEW ROLE:

This role is being offered on a fixed-term part time (14 hours per week) capacity based at our Fitzroy campus until 30th April 2027.

The role of the Nurse Unit Manager – Special Care Nursery is to ensure our clinical outcomes meet exceptional care standards whilst maximising effective business opportunities within this area.

You will be leading a team of friendly and experienced nurses, inclusive of graduate nurses and postgraduate students. Your leadership will facilitate exceptional patient care and promotes advancement of clinical practice.

This fixed-term part-time position involves having flexibility to work between 8 and 12 hour shifts, and will be pivotal in providing holistic care to the families who's babies are admitted to the SCN.

ABOUT YOU:
As an outstanding leader you will have experience in driving clinical team performance whilst creating a safe SCN. You work collaboratively with the Maternity department to focus on family centred care.

The successful candidate will be able to:

  • Provide direction, support and advice to nursing staff and other support personnel

  • Establish and develop effective relationships with staff, AMPs, patients, families and significant others

  • Act as a positive role model maintaining the unit and hospital policies and procedures

  • Exhibit leadership qualities and utilise team building strategies to promote a continuous improvement culture leading to improved patient outcomes and experience

  • Lead the team for efficient and effective management of resources by promoting flexibility and responsiveness to ensure alignment with activity

The successful candidate will have:

  • Current AHPRA Registration as a Registered Nurse/ Registered Midwife

  • Previous leadership experience in obstetrics, ideally SCN or experience at NUM level is highly desirable

  • Ability to influence and lead continuous quality of care improvements

  • High level of communication and interpersonal skills

  • Experience in the use of IT platforms such as IBA(Webpas), IMC, Kronos, and Riskman, or similar
