This is an exciting opportunity for an experienced and passionate nursing leader to step into the Nurse Unit Manager role within our Cardiology/Cardiothoracic Ward.

As Nurse Unit Manager, you will provide visible clinical and operational leadership within a dynamic cardiac service, supporting the delivery of exceptional patient-centred care across a broad range of cardiology presentations and procedures. Working closely with VMOs, nursing staff, and multidisciplinary teams, you will drive excellence in clinical outcomes, patient experience, workforce engagement, and service development.

We are seeking a leader with significant cardiology nursing experience and a strong understanding of contemporary cardiac care, including the management of acute and chronic cardiac conditions, cardiac monitoring, post-procedural care, and complex patient pathways. Your clinical expertise will enable you to support best practice, mentor staff, and lead the ongoing development of a highly skilled cardiac nursing workforce.

  • Lead all aspects of patient care delivery, ensuring evidence-based practice and excellence in contemporary cardiology nursing.

  • Utilise your advanced cardiology knowledge to support complex clinical decision-making and optimise patient outcomes.

  • Build and sustain a positive, collaborative, and high-performing team culture.

  • Coach, mentor, and develop nursing staff, fostering specialist cardiac nursing knowledge and clinical capability.

  • Drive quality improvement, patient safety, and service innovation initiatives within the cardiology service.

  • Lead and support the implementation of new projects, technologies, and models of cardiac care.

  • Ensure exceptional standards of patient experience, clinical governance, and operational performance.

  • Strengthen interdisciplinary partnerships with cardiologists, VMOs, allied health professionals, and broader hospital stakeholders.

  • Foster a culture of continuous learning, professional development, and evidence-based practice.

  • Effectively manage workforce planning, budgeting, and resource utilisation.

  • Maintain compliance with all relevant safety, quality, accreditation, and regulatory requirements.

About you

  • Currently registered as a Registered Nurse (Division 1) with the Australian Health Professionals Regulation Agency.

  • Recognised post graduate tertiary qualification in a clinical speciality or management (or willingness to undertake same within 12 months) or equivalent relevant experience.

  • Demonstrated operational, financial, human resource, workplace health and safety and effective communication and interpersonal skills.

  • Comprehensive understanding of clinical governance and current nursing issues.

  • Demonstrated experience in quality improvement principles, clinical policy and procedure development and implementation.

We are the major specialist paediatric hospital in Victoria and our care extends to children from Tasmania, southern New South Wales and other states around Australia and overseas.
