The following is a summary of the major essential functions of this job. The incumbent may perform other duties, both major and minor, that are not mentioned below. In addition, specific functions may change from time to time:
Plans, organizes, implements, evaluates, and directs patient/client/employee care activities in each department in a clinically appropriate manner
Maintains mechanisms to monitor continuing compliance with standards and guidelines established by JCAHO, OSHA, CDC, State Health Department, DFS, Worker Compensation Program, ADA, FMLA and other regulatory/accrediting agencies and established guidelines
Ensures the department operates within the established annual budget
Collaborates with department physicians and staff actively monitors patient quality of care and overall service quality. Utilizes results to implement measures for ongoing improvement of care
Responsible for daily QC and equipment checks on unit
Evaluates daily patient acuity
Focuses on patient flow and expediting patient flow
Assumes responsibility for professional development by maintaining required licensure, credentialing, and maintaining membership in professional organizations, attending continuing education programs and in-services. Implements new knowledge and skills into own practice, as well as shares new information with staff and peer groups
Ensures HIPAA compliance with health records, retrieval, and storage. Coaches team on HIPAA regulatory guidelines
Assumes responsibility for management and implementation of programs for exposures of employees to infectious diseases or blood and body fluids. Coordinates program with Infection Control Department, Pharmacy, Laboratory and hospital management and medical staff as appropriate
Responsible for the over site of quality of patient care
Assists with clinical education of staff members in the absence of Clinical Educator/Preceptor
Expected to take patient assignment when other staffing options have been exhausted
Expedites testing, wait times and clearances
Other duties as assigned
The following qualifications, or equivalents, are the minimum requirements necessary to perform the essential functions of this job:
Associate degree in Nursing required
Current North Carolina Registered Nurse license or applicable compact state license
Bachelor of Science in Nursing preferred
3-5 years Healthcare experience required
Demonstrates effective organizational leadership characteristics and skills
Working knowledge of budgets, staffing, Performance Improvement as well as regulatory requirements
Strong interpersonal skills required
Knowledge of age-specific physiological, psychosocial, developmental, and spiritual needs for patients served
Demonstrates excellent/effective communication skills, both verbal and written
Speech and auditory acuity for communication of patient/client needs
Visual acuity for observation/assessment of patient/client
Much standing, walking, bending, and lifting up to 35 pounds utilizing proper body mechanics
May involve skin, eye, mucous membrane, or parenteral contact with blood or other potentially infectious material
May involve frequent local travel
