Newton Correctional Facility is seeking an experienced and dedicated Registered Nurse to serve as a Nursing Supervisor. This frontline leadership role provides operational and clinical oversight for nursing staff across both the main institution and its minimum-security satellite facility (CRC). Working under the direction of the Nursing Services Director, you will lead a team of 14 direct reports (10 RNs, 3 LPNs, and 1 Nursing Unit Coordinator) to ensure the delivery of safe, efficient, and quality healthcare to a medically complex patient population.
Supervision & Operations: Direct day-to-day nursing workflows, manage unit scheduling and coverage, approve leave/overtime, participate in hiring, and conduct performance evaluations.
Clinical Oversight: Ensure provider orders, referrals, hospital discharges, and chronic care management are carried out effectively and documented in ICON.
Quality & Compliance: Conduct clinical audits, investigate incidents, track metrics, and ensure compliance with Iowa Board of Nursing standards, Iowa Department of Corrections policies, and state regulations.
Collaboration & Safety: Partner with interdisciplinary medical/mental health teams and security personnel to maintain a safe, patient-centered care environment.

Licensure: Active Registered Nurse (RN) license in the State of Iowa.
Experience: Strong background in clinical nursing practice with demonstrated supervisory or leadership experience (correctional or secure healthcare environment experience preferred).
Skills: Solid clinical judgment, working knowledge of evidence-based practices, strong administrative capabilities, and effective interdisciplinary communication skills.
Availability: Standard Shift 10:00 am - 6:00 pm, Monday - Friday. Ability to work variable hours, shifts, weekends, holidays, and participate in the nursing leadership on-call rotation as needed.

Applicants must meet at least one of the following minimum requirements to qualify for positions in this job classification:
1) All of the following (a, b, and c):
a. Licensure as Registered Nurse in the State of Iowa by the Iowa Board of Nursing or licensure as a Registered Nurse in accordance with the Nurse Licensure Compact Administrator’s Agreement of the National Council of State Boards of Nursing; and
b. Graduation from an accredited four-year college or university with a bachelor’s degree in nursing; and
c. One year of full-time professional clinical work experience in a correctional environment or in any combination of nursing specialty areas including epidemiology, geriatrics, maternal and child health, nursing education, pediatrics, public health, mental health or psychiatrics, or intellectual disability.
2) All of the following (a and b):
a. Licensure as Registered Nurse in the State of Iowa by the Iowa Board of Nursing or licensure as a Registered Nurse in accordance with the Nurse Licensure Compact Administrator’s Agreement of the National Council of State Boards of Nursing; and
b. Graduation from an accredited college or university with a master’s degree in nursing.
3) All of the following (a, b, and c):
a. Licensure as Registered Nurse in the State of Iowa by the Iowa Board of Nursing or licensure as a Registered Nurse in accordance with the Nurse Licensure Compact Administrator’s Agreement of the National Council of State Boards of Nursing; and
b. One year of full-time professional clinical work experience in a correctional environment or in any combination of nursing specialty areas including epidemiology, geriatrics, maternal and child health, nursing education, pediatrics, public health, mental health or psychiatrics, or intellectual disability; and
c. A total of four years of education and/or full-time experience (as described in part b), where thirty semester hours of accredited college or university course work in nursing equals one year of full-time experience.
