International SOS is the world’s leading medical and security services company with over 12,000 employees working in 1,000 locations in 90 countries. International SOS Government Services administers the TRICARE Overseas Program providing high-quality, accessible health care services for U.S. Military service members, family members, retirees, and other eligible beneficiaries overseas.

Near Patient Nurse

Location: Schwandorf/Hybrid

Contract type: Full time and permanent

About The Role

Are you ready to step away from the intensity of hospital shift work and move into a role that offers true work–life balance, professional autonomy, and purpose-driven patient interaction?

Join our Near Patient Program supporting the TRICARE Overseas mission - a unique opportunity to blend clinical expertise with international healthcare coordination across Europe. A dynamic nursing role with real autonomy, no night shifts, and meaningful international impact.

Key Responsibilities

As a Near Patient Nurse, you become the clinical bridge between European healthcare providers and U.S. military medical teams. You provide in-person patient support, coordinate medical updates, and ensure safe, high-quality care throughout the patient’s hospital stay.

Core responsibilities include:

  • Medical Case Management

    • Oversee and coordinate inpatient care for patients

  • Ensure clinical quality oversight and support a positive inpatient experience

  • Communication and Coordination

    • Communicate directly with local treating medical teams to obtain detailed medical updates

  • Provide English language status reports to military clinic staff

    • Facilitate smooth transitions of care upon hospital discharge back to the responsible military treatment facility

  • Patient Advocacy and Support

    • Ensure patients understand their treatment plans

    • Act as an intermediary between treating medical teams and patients, including language support where needed

    • Advocate for patients when necessary while maintaining strong relationships with local network healthcare providers

  • Direct Interaction

    • Deliver face-to-face support to beneficiaries during hospitalization

    • Build trust and foster positive relationships with both patients and healthcare providers

You will be supported by experienced leaders, including the Near Patient Nurse Lead and Near Patient Physician Lead, while still enjoying a high degree of independence and control over your daily work.

The Working Model

  • Hybrid approach blending clinical visits and remote responsibilities

  • Daily travel to hospitals across your region

  • No night shifts and no bedside burnout

If you enjoy autonomy, variety, and meaningful clinical interaction, this is the nursing role you have been looking for.

About You

  • Registered General Nurse (or equivalent) with a minimum of 3 years’ experience and registration to practice in Germany

  • Recognized qualification to minimum diploma level or equivalent experience (demonstrated through portfolio/CV)

  • Comfortable with technology and digital tools, including typing, MS Teams, and quickly learning and navigating new systems (e.g., CRM/Salesforce and other platforms)

  • Proficient in German and English (minimum B2 level)

  • Strong team player with excellent communication and interpersonal skills

  • Must have own vehicle and a valid driver’s license with no restrictions

  • Passionate about international healthcare

Why This Role Stands Out

  • A warm, supportive, and globally connected team

  • No more night shifts and improved work–life balance

  • A unique clinical role outside the traditional hospital environment

  • Fuel/travel allowance

  • Clear career pathways and professional development opportunities

  • A diverse, inclusive organisation with colleagues across the world

  • The chance to make a real difference for military families living abroad
