Job Description

Nurse Practitioner, Ortho Hand- North Liberty Campus-(26003710)

The Advanced Practice Provider (APP) will work collaboratively with other APPs, fellows, residents, and Hand Team surgeons within the Department of Orthopedics and Rehabilitation. The APP will be expected to provide outstanding care to patients in the outpatient settings as well as demonstrate proficiency in the operating room. Clinical duties include seeing new, return, and post-operative patients in addition to performing preoperative physical examinations. No call is expected with this role.

Position Responsibilities:

  • The APP will be expected to deliver excellent care, preform and interpret diagnostic testing (X-rays, advanced imaging, labs), perform injections, and prescribe, dispense, or deliver medications under a collaborative practice agreement.

  • It is expected that the APP show a willingness to learn, collaborate with a team, and provide cross coverage for the team when needed.

  • Supervise the care delivered to patients.

  • Perform /order medical, diagnostic, and therapeutic procedures,

  • Prescribe, dispense, and/or deliver medications under a collaborative practice agreement.

  • Consult/collaborate with other care team members. Use judgment to apply/adopt information within total clinical picture to address health issues while influencing others to adopt best practices.

  • Complete patient medical records, reports, and forms to record treatment for EMR and billing purposes. Improve quality of care by performing chart reviews and participating on performance improvement committees.

  • Provide health education to patients and medical education to health professions students and residents. Participate in ongoing research and professional development of self and other staff.

  • Establish and maintain procedures and systems to ensure staff compliance with policies and standards of care. Initiate corrective action as needed.

  • The position may require travel to assist in surgery at all UI Campuses including: Medical Center North Liberty, Medical Center Downtown, and Main Campus University.

  • Operating room assistance will not be guaranteed, but may be needed pending team staffing needs. The position primarily be outpatient clinic based work.

The new University of Iowa Health Care North Liberty Campus opened in the Spring of 2025.This 469,000 square foot facility is the home to UI Health Care’s nationally recognized Orthopedics service line, offering comprehensive, coordinated, and accessible care across the outpatient, inpatient and surgical venues. These state-of-the-art clinical facilities will also include a full-service community imaging center, laboratory services, physical therapy, retail pharmacy, and emergency department as well as an array of support services.The facility has been designed to support a superior patient and staff experience; excellence across our patient care, teaching and research missions; convenient access to services; and engaging community partnerships.UI Health Care is seeking a welcoming, highly-skilled and collaborative workforce to be a part of the opening team for this superb new campus, and to help further our mission of: Changing Medicine. Qualifications

Education Requirements:

  • A Master's degree is required. A Master's degree or DNP in Nursing is preferred. If Master's degree is in a related field, a Baccalaureate degree in nursing is required. Current license to practice nursing in Iowa is required. Current certification in specialty area and licensure as ARNP in state of Iowa is required.

Experience Requirements:

  • 2 or more years of experience working as an advanced practice provider is required.

  • Demonstrated experience working effectively in a welcoming and respectful workplace environment.
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills.

Desired Qualifications:

  • Demonstrated experience and/or knowledge of orthopedic patient care is highly desired.

  • Experience working in an orthopedic setting.
