
The Department of Pediatrics, Division of Pediatric Hematology & Oncology is recruiting for an Advanced Practice Provider (NP/PA) to work full time primarily in the Pediatric Sickle Cell Clinic and some Pediatric Hematology Clinic at Shawn Jenkin’s Children’s Hospital in Charleston, South Carolina.
Responsibilities also include providing health maintenance and disease prevention based on appropriate age and concomitant risk factors. Following established protocols, nurse practitioners/physician assistants assume responsibility for patient care management of a variety of patient populations. Duties will include comprehensive orders for clinic visits, evaluation and management of patients, progress notes, and care coordination. The APP demonstrates leadership skills, establishes effective relationships with patients, their families and members of patient care. The APP will function within the requirements of the State of South Carolina Board of Nursing or SC Board of Medical Examiners including designation of supervising/collaborating physician, alternate physicians and written protocols/scopes of practice guidelines, updated annually.

Completion of an accredited Physician Assistant program and currently licensed or eligible for licensure as a Physician Assistant or;
Completion of an accredited Nurse Practitioner Program and currently licensed or eligible for licensure as an APRN as noted below.
Preferred APP Experience: Minimum of 1 year experience as a PA or NP working with sickle cell or hematology patients is preferred.
Advanced Practice Registered Nurse or Physician Assistant will be assigned a Primary Supervising/Collaborating Physician employed by MUSC and will report directly to this physician.
Continuous requirements are to perform job functions while standing, walking and sitting. Ability to bend at the waist, kneel, climb stairs, reach in all directions, fully use both hands and legs, possess good finger dexterity, perform repetitive motions with hands/wrists/elbows and shoulders, reach in all directions. Ability to be qualified physically for respirator use, initially and as required. Maintain 20/40 vision corrected, see and recognize objects close at hand and at a distance, work in a latex safe environment and work indoors. Frequently lift, lower, push and pull and/or carry objects weighing 50 lbs (+/-) unassisted, exert up to 50 lbs of force, lift from 36" to overhead 25 lbs. Infrequently work in dusty areas and confined/cramped spaces.
