Job Description

Your job is more than a job.

Nurse Practitioner - Bone Marrow Transplant / Cell Therapy

Department: Cellular Therapy / Bone Marrow Transplant
Schedule: Full-Time
Location: University Medical Center – New Orleans

About the Opportunity

We are expanding our advanced oncology services with the development of a comprehensive Cellular Therapy and Bone Marrow Transplant (BMT) Program—a critical step in strengthening our institutional readiness for National Cancer Institute (NCI) designation. As a key clinical leader in this growth, the Nurse Practitioner (NP) will play an essential role in building the clinical infrastructure, patient care continuity, and multidisciplinary coordination required for a mature academic cancer program.

High-quality hematopoietic stem cell transplantation services are a cornerstone of NCI‑designated cancer centers. This role directly supports program excellence by ensuring continuity of care, strengthening clinical depth, and advancing the patient experience across the entire transplant journey.

The Nurse Practitioner will serve as a dedicated provider within the Cellular Therapy/BMT service line, delivering highly specialized care across a complex continuum—from pre‑transplant evaluation through long‑term survivorship. The NP will collaborate closely with transplant physicians, infusion teams, research staff, and multidisciplinary clinical partners to ensure safe, coordinated, and evidence‑based care for all BMT and cellular therapy patients.

Key Responsibilities

  • Provide comprehensive outpatient care to patients undergoing hematopoietic stem cell transplantation and cellular therapy.
  • Conduct pre‑transplant evaluations, manage post‑transplant follow‑up, and monitor for both acute and long‑term complications.
  • Support donor coordination, patient education, and care navigation in partnership with the transplant team.
  • Manage chronic graft‑versus‑host disease, immunosuppression protocols, infectious risk monitoring, and survivorship plans.
  • Collaborate with inpatient teams to ensure seamless transitions of care.
  • Participate in care pathways, quality initiatives, and clinical protocols that support program growth and NCI‑aligned standards.
  • Work collaboratively with research and clinical trial teams to support translational and cellular therapy initiatives.
  • Provide ongoing patient and family education to enhance understanding, preparedness, and engagement throughout the transplant process.
  • Maintain meticulous clinical documentation and adherence to regulatory and accreditation standards.

Qualifications

Required:

  • Master’s or Doctoral degree as a Nurse Practitioner.
  • Active Louisiana APRN license (or eligibility).
  • Registered Nursing License (RN) from the Louisiana State Board of Nursing
  • Minimum of 2–3 years of experience in hematology/oncology, transplant medicine, or another high‑acuity specialty.
  • Demonstrated ability to work within a multidisciplinary team in a complex clinical environment.
  • Basic Life Support (BLS) from American Heart Association
  • Advanced Cardiac Life Support (ACLS) from American Heart Association

Preferred:

  • Prior experience in bone marrow transplant, cellular therapy, or immunotherapy.
  • Oncology or Acute Care NP certification.
  • Experience in academic medical centers or programs with strong research integration.

Who Thrives in This Role

This role is ideal for a clinically skilled, highly motivated NP who excels in complex oncology care and values being part of a program-building initiative. You bring strong critical‑thinking skills, compassion for patients navigating life‑changing therapies, and a commitment to advancing excellence in cancer care.

About LCMC Health

We believe a hospital should actually be hospitable.

We’re a New Orleans-based, non-profit health system on a mission: to provide the best possible care for every person and parish in Louisiana and beyond, and to put a little more heart and soul into healthcare along the way. And that means we do things a little differently around here.

Treating people like family is the LCMC Health way, and it always has been. Founded by Louisiana’s first freestanding children’s hospital, we’ve grown into a healthcare system that’s built to serve the unique needs of our communities and families across New Orleans, the Gulf Coast and beyond.

We believe in treating the whole patient, not just the condition. When you visit an LCMC Health facility, you will get the care that is best for you and your family because we believe that shared beliefs and positive outlooks are what drive our exceptional care.

We offer nine hospital locations: Children’s Hospital New Orleans, East Jefferson General Hospital, New Orleans East Hospital, Touro, University Medical Center New Orleans, West Jefferson Medical Center, Lakeview Hospital, and Lakeside Hospital. We also deliver world-class care close to home through a network of urgent care centers across the greater New Orleans area in addition to our physician practices. With over 2,200 board-certified physicians specializing in everything from head to toe, our community can count on us to provide the right care, right where they need it.

We’ve got a rich history, but our sights are set on what comes next. We’re committed to leading the way to a healthier future for the Gulf Coast. That’s why we partner with local universities to bring the latest in care to our patients, and to train the next generation of healthcare professionals that will make a difference right here in our communities.
