Temporary assignment for approximately May 2027


The Nurse Practitioner - NICU/Special Care Nursery provides comprehensive advanced practice nursing care to neonates and families as part of a multidisciplinary team. The Nurse Practitioner (NP) will function as an expert clinician working closely with frontline staff to provide high quality care and clinical nursing leadership in the Level 2(b) environment. The NP is an autonomous health care provider who, working collaboratively with the interprofessional Women's & Infants' Program team, applies an expanded range of theoretical, practical and evidence-informed therapeutics to neonates and their families in the NICU/Special Care Nursery. Within the Women's & Infants' Program, the NP is authorized to perform extended health services which include comprehensive assessment, diagnosis, intervention, referral, management, and evaluation of patient care across the continuum of acute health services. Utilizing advanced nursing knowledge, skill, clinical reasoning, problem solving and critical thinking and well developed clinical and procedural skills, all duties and responsibilities will follow the NP Standards of Practice set by the College of Nurses of Ontario, and Standards of Behaviour set by St. Joseph's Healthcare. Reporting to the Women's & Infants' Program Clinical Director, the NP will work in the multiple domains of practice: Clinician, Educator, Researcher, Process and Quality Improvement and Leadership. The NP will have a significant role in the mentorship of nursing and medical learners, including providing feedback in a CBE based training program.

QUALIFICATIONS:
• Current registration with the College of Nurses of Ontario in the Extended Class with Nurse Practitioner-Pediatrics specialty certificate
• Master's level preparation in Nursing or a related field
• Completion of a graduate level Neonatal Nurse Practitioner or Advanced Neonatal Nursing diploma program
• Minimum of 2-5 years of experience as a Neonatal Nurse Practitioner in a Level II or III setting
• Current Neonatal Resuscitation Provider/Instructor certification (NRP)
• Current Basic Cardiac Life Support (BCLS) certification
• CNA certification in a related specialty is an asset
• RNAO membership with additional professional liability coverage is an asset
• NPAO membership is an asset
• CANN membership is an asset
• Minimum 2 years of neonatal nursing experience in a Level II or III setting, prior to completion of NP education
• Demonstrated nursing and clinical leadership skills
• Demonstrated procedural skills
• Demonstrated excellent interpersonal and communication skills
• Demonstrated ability to function in a leadership capacity in the clinical environment, with strong decision-making skills while assessing, planning, implementing and evaluating patient care
• Demonstrated experience leading quality and process Improvement
• Demonstrated ability to function as a mentor for learners, including contributing to learner evaluations.
• Demonstrated ability to function at a high level in critical situations and in a fast-paced, complex clinical environment that requires the ability to prioritize work while multi-tasking with frequent interruptions
• Demonstrated knowledge of community resources and an ability to access appropriate services for patients and families
• Demonstrated ability to establish and maintain positive working relationships within an interdisciplinary team
