UNIT PROFILE:
The General Internal Medicine Program is comprised of multiple highly-rated Clinical Teaching Units (CTUs) focusing on acute medical care and geriatric assessment. The Program provides primary, secondary, and tertiary care to a diverse patient mix embracing all age categories, socioeconomic backgrounds, ethnicities and education levels. The patient population served by the General Internal Medicine interdisciplinary team includes patients with undifferentiated medical illnesses, multiple co-morbidities requiring expertise outside the scope of a single primary care physician, specialist or sub-specialist that can be acute or chronic in nature. Our skilled and dedicated interdisciplinary health professional team work collaboratively to provide high quality, safe, ethical and effective care to the patients and families we serve.


The Nurse Practitioner (NP) is an autonomous health care provider who, working collaboratively with the inter-professional Cardiology, Respriology, General Internal Medicine Team, applies an expanded range of theoretical, practical and evidence-informed therapeutics to patients. Within the Medicine Program the NP is authorized to perform extended health services which include comprehensive assessment, diagnosis, intervention, referral, management, and evaluation of patient care across the continuum of acute health services. Utilizing advanced nursing knowledge, skill, clinical reasoning, problem solving and critical thinking, all duties and responsibilities will follow the NP Standards of Practice set by the College of Nurses of Ontario, and Standards of Behaviour set by St. Joseph's Healthcare. Reporting to the Program Clinical Director, the NP will work in the 4 domains of practice: Clinician (75%); Educator, Administrator and Researcher (25%).

QUALIFICATIONS:
•Current registration in the Registered Nurse-Extended Class (RN-EC) with the College of Nurses of Ontario, either as an NP-Adult or NP-Primary Health Care, is required.
•Masters in Nursing or relevant healthcare field preferred.
•Proof of successful completion of controlled substances education required
•Appointment or eligibility for appointment with a School of Nursing in an academic institution.
•CNA certification in related specialty area preferred.
•BCLS certification required.
•RNAO, NPAO, CNA membership preferred.
•Three (3) years recent related clinical nursing experience in medicine/geriatric specialty preferred.
•Recent related clinical nursing experience working in an acute care setting, tertiary level and teaching organization preferred.
•Demonstrated clinical competence in medicine/geriatric nursing required.
•Demonstrated self-directed decision making and problem solving skills required.
•Demonstrated knowledge of legislative and ethical responsibilities relating to scope of practice and healthcare required.
•Demonstrated excellent interpersonal skills and ability to maintain effective collegial relationships and teamwork required.
•Demonstrated effective conflict management/resolution skills required.
•Demonstrated scholarly inquiry, knowledge translation, and effective research skills required.
•Demonstrated proficient computers skills (ie. HBO/Star, Portal, Clinical Connect, MS Office, EPIC, etc.) required.
•Demonstrated data management skills for evaluation, interpretation and process change required.
•Demonstrated good attendance record required.
