A Nurse Practitioner contributes to AHF by delivering comprehensive sexual health, HIV prevention, and STI care at one of our Wellness Centers. In addition to evaluating symptoms, interpreting labs, and treating STIs in a timely manner. The Nurse Practitioner plays a key role in PrEP care- including same day PrEP starts when appropriate- through risk assessment, patient education, prescribing, follow-up planning, and coordination with the Wellness team and AHF Pharmacy to support initiation and retention. The Nurse Practitioner also supports our Rapid ART (Rapid Start) model by initiating antiretroviral therapy (ART) the same day a client is newly diagnosed with HIV ( as clinically indicated), ordering baseline labs, and ensuring streamlined results review and follow up within 24-48 hours. The Nurse Practitioner coordinates a warm handoff and timely transition to HIV primary care at an AHF Healthcare Center (HCC) so clients remain safely bridged from the starter pack to their first comprehensive HIV care visit. You will be a passionate advocate for our top initiatives.
To be successful as a Nurse Practitioner it is crucial to ensure that the AHF Core Values and Mission stay top of mind with all that you do. At AHF we are nimble and able to adapt in a dynamic environment to assist in providing the best experience for our clients and workplace for our employees.
AHF has a collaborative organizational structure where staff are accountable to multiple leaders.
The Nurse Practitioner will work as part of a close-knit team to accommodate walk-in clients while ensuring high quality, efficient care. This includes collecting and reviewing medical history, performing focused exams during medical visits, ordering and interpreting diagnostic testing, prescribing medications and/or treatment, and referring to a physician or specialist for consultation when needed. The Nurse Practitioner collaborates closely with Wellness staff, Linkage, and AHF Pharmacy to remove barriers to care, support same-day PrEP starts and ongoing PrEP follow-up, and ensure timely Rapid ART linkage for clients newly diagnosed with HIV.

AHF’s mission of providing cutting-edge medicine and advocacy regardless of ability to pay is supported through its various business lines. AHF Pharmacies, Out of the Closet thrift stores, healthcare contracts, and other strategic partnerships generate funding that help AHF provide life-saving services to the thousands of people it cares for.
The hallmark of AHF’s success is generating and defining new, innovative ways to provide HIV/AIDS treatment, prevention, and advocacy. AHF has embarked on a mass testing initiative to identify and treat the 25 million people worldwide who don’t know they are infected. It will take 1 billion tests annually to achieve this goal. AHF is advocating for mass testing models in hopes of eliminating older, more time-consuming methods.
Since 1987, AHF has cared for thousands of people living with HIV/AIDS worldwide. As AHF creates and implements its unparalleled programs in new communities in the U.S. and abroad, they expand delivery of healthcare and influence over policy with the sole aim of saving more lives.
