Job Description

Job Title: Nurse Practitioner

The person in this position functions in the Clinic and/or OR setting under the supervision of his/her assigned physician; may perform activities which involve an initial evaluation and treatment of the patient’s condition, as defined in the scope of the State of Illinois standards.

Responsibilities

Hospital/Surgical Activities

  • Secures patients’ history and physical and records same in medical record
  • Assists surgeon with daily rounds and records such as progress notes
  • Ensures the delivery of required patient x-rays to the operating room prior to operative procedure
  • Assists the surgeon with major and minor surgical procedures in the operating room.
  • Positions, preps and drapes the patient, as needed
  • Closes surgical wounds and performs post-operative wound care, removal of K-wires, etc.
  • Transmits supervising surgeon’s orders and ensures co-signature by surgeon
  • Inserts foley catheters, prn
  • Applies dressings, casts, splint brace, abduction pillows, etc.
  • Participates in on-call activities with assigned physician according to the Medical Center policy on allied health
  • Performs minor surgical procedures within scope of licensure
  • Performs and/or assists with patient traction, adjustment, realignment and removal of traction
  • Dictates H&P’s, consultations and discharge summaries

Clinic Activities

  • Performs joint aspirations/injections
  • Interprets x-rays
  • Applies casts, splints, braces, etc. under supervision of the physician
  • Secures histories and physicals. Updates status of patients scheduled for recheck visits.
  • Removes staples, sutures, drains, etc.
  • Sees patients in the clinic both independently and with supervision
  • Dictates clinic progress notes. Orders appropriate tests and develops patient treatment plans with physician approval

Other Functions

  • Performs clinical research, presentations, and other academic activities, as needed with physicians
  • Assists in fielding/triaging physician calls
  • Maintain a clean and safe work environment
  • Other duties as assigned

Requirements

Requirements

Education

  • Master of Science in Nursing, Nurse Practitioner Program

Certifications/Licensure

  • Active Licensure as Advanced Practice Nurse Practitioner in the State of Illinois
  • ACLS desirable; current CPR required

Experience

  • History of exhibited competence, judgment, stability and professional integrity

Technical Skills

  • Able to speak/write English language fluently; knowledge of second language helpful but not required

Soft Skills

  • Excellent interpersonal and relationship building skills

Physical Requirements

  • Stand or sit for extended periods of time
  • Occasional exposure to electrical and chemical hazards
  • Requires lifting associated with patient transfers (up to 50 lbs.)
  • Requires the ability to bend and stoop without difficulty
  • Involves exposure to blood-borne pathogens
  • Requires verbal/written communication ability in the English language
  • Involves exposure to weather elements and travel to all associations. Hospitals and/or HOA facilities

Base salary offers for this position may vary based on factors such as location, skills and relevant experience.
