Eating Disorders @ UHN
UHN is home to Canada’s largest Eating Disorders Program, spanning direct clinical care, system capacity building, and advocacy. The program provides intensive, individualized treatment for individuals aged 17 and older through a full continuum of services, including inpatient care, virtual intensive outpatient programming, and outpatient psychotherapy. Provincially, through Eating Disorders Ontario, it leads workforce development equipping providers across care settings with the education and training they need to provide care for people with eating disorders as well as leadership in delivery of eating disorder prevention initiatives. Nationally, UHN operates National Eating Disorder Information Centre (NEDIC), connecting individuals and providers to resources, while being active voice for eating disorders Canada-wide. Through these collective components, our aim is driving global impact to improve the lives of those impacted by eating disorders.
Within Eating Disorders inpatient and outpatient care delivery, the Nurse Practitioner (NP) provides extended nursing care that optimizes patient outcomes, enhances safety, efficiency, effectiveness and accessibility for eating disorders patients. Collaborating closely with the Nurse Practitioner currently working in the Program for Eating Disorders, the Primary Care/Mental Health Specialist Nurse Practitioner works as a member of an interprofessional team, utilizing their training to provide a range of primary care/mental health services within the scope of their practice and expertise.
This role will have the opportunity to work across all clinical settings based on patient care needs. This includes our inpatient unit, performing assessments, making diagnoses, and prescribing laboratory tests, investigations and drugs as appropriate – as well as our outpatient unit, including supporting our in-take process. The Nurse Practitioner will work closely with the program psychiatrists, psychologists, nurses, and other allied health team members to ensure seamless delivery of medical care.
