Job Subfamily

Infusion Oncology and Huntsman Acute Care nurses deliver direct bedside care to patients receiving intravenous cancer therapies and supportive treatments in outpatient infusion and acute care settings. Their practice is characterized by real‑time monitoring of patients during treatment, early identification and management of infusion‑related complications, and rapid response to high‑risk events such as hypersensitivity reactions, extravasation, and other oncologic emergencies. As nurses progress, they manage increasingly complex therapies and unstable patient presentations while supporting safe treatment delivery across the infusion and acute care continuum. Advanced levels reflect deep technical expertise, independent clinical decision‑making, and bedside leadership in high‑risk treatment environments.

N2: Provides care to patients in structured environments. Performs established nursing interventions using current clinical knowledge. Begins mentoring and supporting peers. Applies knowledge of disease processes and treatments. Demonstrates growing clinical judgment in patient care. Manages moderately complex cases. Identifies subtle changes in patient status and independently initiates appropriate interventions. Works with intermediate support. Manages care independently within established protocols. Essential Functions

• Independently manages care for a typical infusion oncology patient caseload.
• Administers chemotherapy, immunotherapy, and supportive treatments following established protocols.
• Monitors patients for expected toxicities and infusion reactions; initiates appropriate interventions.
• Applies symptom management protocols and coordinates care with providers and team members.
• Recognizes and escalates abnormal reactions or complications beyond expected patterns.
• Provides patient and family education on treatment regimens, side effects, and home care.
• Participates in care for clinical trial patients and follows protocol-specific requirements.
• Prioritizes patient care and manages workflow within the infusion setting.
• Communicates patient status and treatment updates with interdisciplinary teams.
• Serves as an informal resource for staff on routine infusion workflows and treatments.
• Maintains accurate documentation and adheres to oncology safety standards.
• At the discretion of department operational and patient care needs, this position is required to work rotating schedules, which may include variable hours, weekends, nights, and holidays to meet the staffing and patient care demands of a 24/7 complex health system. Regular, reliable, and punctual attendance during assigned shifts is considered an essential function of the role. 

Qualifications

Licenses Required

• Current license to practice as a Registered Nurse in the State of Utah, or obtain one within 90 days of hire under the interstate compact if switching residency to State of Utah. Must maintain current Interstate Compact (multi-state) license if residency is not being changed to Utah.

• Current RQI Healthcare Provider eCredential through the University of Utah Health RQI system. The eCredential is to be obtained within 30 days of hire.
