Nurse Extern Inpatient Rehabilitation Program - Stroke Certified
The Inpatient Rehabilitation unit is a great unit for future RNs with a goal to work in community, population health, or in home health in the future; as well as future nurses who want to advance to specialty areas.
Inpatient Rehab (IRP) is a stroke certified rehabilitation program accredited by the Commission of Accreditation of Rehabilitation Facilities (CARF). Admission to the unit is considered a separate admission from the acute care area, but the unit is considered, and supported by all the hospital services at Aurora St. Luke’s.
Approximately 50% of the patients admitted to the unit have Neuromedical diagnosis such as: Strokes, Parkinson’, Multiple Sclerosis and brain injuries with other neurological impairments.

Unit Description: Aurora St. Luke’s Medical Center’s Inpatient Rehabilitation Program provides the most advanced rehab care possible through a team approach to medical services and rehabilitation therapies. Our patient population consists of many different diagnoses including brain injury, stroke, amputations, spinal cord injuries, neurological impairments, transplants, heart failure requiring left ventricular assist devices, cancer, some orthopedic conditions, as well as generalized weakness associated with prolonged hospitalization. We are a 45 bed CARF-accredited acute rehabilitation facility providing patient-centered care through an interdisciplinary team approach focusing on the medical and functional needs of the patient. The nursing team works closely with each other collaborating with other disciplines to provide the best patient outcomes and patient satisfaction. In addition to providing medical/surgical management, our focus is providing the necessary skills and tools to facilitate a safe discharge home.
