Nurse Educator

Salary:$72,351.97 - $77,054.85 per year

We are looking for a passionate professional to lead the training of Direct Support Professionals (DSPs) in exciting nursing tasks, including medication administration and health management! In this dynamic role, you'll conduct engaging training sessions, supervise practical exams, and ensure smooth implementation of medication administration policies across various programs. You'll also team up with residence managers on medical matters and oversee aging services, bringing your expertise to provide education and assessments. Work Location: Canandaigua, NY

Schedule: 8-4 M-F; Flexibility in schedule required to meet agency needs. Occasional evening and weekend training

Responsibilities

  • Performs training for DSPs on all OPWDD provided curriculums including medication administration, Injection certification, Diabetes, Tube Feeding, and Colostomy care. This includes both a didactic portion as well as all hands on practicums.
  • Supervises medication and injection administration practical examinations and annual recertification of same. Trains and provides direction to agency staff in health related areas and procedures Oversees medication administration policy and procedures and provides oversight to staff in implementation of same. Supervises respective residence manager(s) in role(s) as agency designated supervisor regarding medical issues at residential sites.
  • Oversees Aging services and provides education and trainings and assessments as needed.

Requirements

  • RN currently registered by the NYS Department of Education, with experience working with the developmentally disabled performing or participating in staff education, assessments and treatment planning is preferred.
  • Must be able to talk, hear, sit for extended periods of time, stand for limited periods of time, use hand to finger, stretch with hands and arms, stooping or crouching for file retrieval and access, speaking with clarity and accuracy, listening, and the ability to engage in repetitive motion activities i.e., typing.
  • Must be able to lift 50 pounds.
