Our Residential Medical Detoxification Program provides medically supervised stabilization services in a structured, supportive environment. The Intake Nurse Specialist plays a critical role in ensuring safe, efficient, and clinically appropriate admissions into the program.
The Opportunity
BCRI is seeking a skilled and detail-oriented Intake Nurse Specialist (LPN/RN) to coordinate the intake, triage, and admission process for individuals referred to the Residential Medical Detoxification Program.
Working closely with the Lead Physician and Program Director, this role ensures that individuals admitted meet medical necessity criteria and are appropriate for detox level of care. The Intake Nurse Specialist serves as the central point of coordination between clinical teams, referral sources, and program staff to support safe and timely access to services.
What You’ll Do
Admissions & Care Coordination
- Coordinate intake, triage, and admissions for all referrals to the Residential Medical Detoxification Program
- Conduct triage screenings and schedule admission dates with referred individuals
- Collaborate with the Lead Physician, Director, and Residential Case Manager to maintain bed availability
- Serve as the primary point of contact for all admissions to the Detox Program
- Coordinate with the Mobile Crisis Team regarding admissions to the Detox Unit or Crisis Residential Unit
- Track admissions and discharges and provide regular census updates to program leadership
- Consult with internal staff and external agencies regarding admission criteria and processes
Clinical Nursing Responsibilities
- Conduct timely nursing evaluations addressing addiction, mental health, and somatic/medical concerns
- Accurately document clinical findings and client needs
- Monitor and administer medications as ordered
- Maintain open and ongoing communication with the Lead Physician regarding client care
Education & Team Support
- Provide individual and group client education
- Offer training and teaching support to staff, interns, and volunteers
Additional Duties
- Perform other duties as assigned to support program operations and client care

QualificationsRequired
- Active Maryland licensure as a Licensed Practical Nurse (LPN) or Registered Nurse (RN)
- 5+ years of experience in addiction treatment and/or co-occurring disorder settings
- Strong clinical assessment skills and ability to determine medical necessity
- Excellent communication and coordination skills
Working Conditions
- Moderate walking, standing, stair climbing, and sitting required
- Light to moderate lifting may be required
- Work performed primarily in a well-lit, ventilated office environment with standard equipment
- May require weekend coverage and flexible scheduling
- Potential exposure to emotionally charged or high-stress situations
