Job Description

DUTIES: Under the direction of the PHN12 Nursing Manager, coordinator plays a leadership role in assessing and training on maternal/infant mortality and morbidity. Performs and implements health education, prevention, and control measures according to Healthy Start Systems protocols. In line with Healthy People 2030/Health of Boston report identifies patterns, provides education and outreach as needed for successful outcomes for maternal child health.

  • Ensures equitable approach to maternal and child health that incorporates BPHC racial justice principles.
  • Assists with development of data collections tools and ensures complete and accurate collection of data.
  • Plays a key role in maternal child health related activities. Provides education and outreach on maternal child health issues to health care providers, agencies, and community groups throughout the city. Acts as a resource on maternal health child related issues for Healthy Start Systems and other BPHC staff, non-BPHC providers, and community groups.
  • Supervises subordinates as required.
  • Assists in orientation of new staff and staff development programs.
  • Identifies or develops maternal child health resources.
  • Provides nursing support for Healthy Start Systems such as clinical assessments, growth and development and program protocols.
  • Participates in and provides clinical support for special projects and initiatives as requested.
  • Participates in staff conferences, research activities, and meetings with community based or other agencies as requested.
  • Collaborates with others throughout BPHC and birthing providers to address health disparities in maternal child health.
  • May be required to perform duties of other nurses.
  • Performs other duties as required.

Qualifications

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:

  • Licensed to practice as Registered Nurse in Massachusetts
  • BSN or a Bachelor's Degree in a related field required except that 10 years clinical or public health experience (health education, outreach) may be substituted for a BSN or Bachelor's Degree
  • Master's Degree in Nursing, Education, Public Health, or related field preferred.
  • 3-5 years' experience in case management, infection control, and/or emergency nursing.
  • Experience in case management, public health nursing, and/or emergency nursing preferred.
  • Experience in project management and/ or research in biomedical sciences or public health preferred.
  • Demonstrated supervisory skills with demonstrated leadership and organizational skills.
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills
  • Demonstrated strong organizational, planning, and management skills.
  • Massachusetts driver's license required

RN licensed in MA & Bachelors degree in Nursing or related field required.

Masters Degree in Nursing, Education, or Public Health preferred.

3-5 years Public Health experience required, including recent direct clinical experience.

Prior communicable disease experience preferred.

Demonstrated supervisory skills required with demonstrated leadership -and organizational skills.

Strong assessment, planning, evaluation and intervention skills. Excellent teaching and counseling abilities. Demonstrated ability to carry out responsibilities in the home, community, clinic, school, and/or other group settings. Excellent written and verbal communication skills. Demonstrated ability to work with diverse populations. Prior phlebotomy experience preferred or willingness to learn.

Bilingual (Spanish, Creole, or Asian language) preferred.

Valid Mass. drivers license and daily access to working automobile required.
