Under the direction of the Director, Manager and/or Medical Health Officer, the Public Health Nurse (PHN) Supervisor provides leadership, oversight, and clinical expertise for Integrated Rural Health and provincial public health programs. The role supports the delivery of public health services in alignment with Saskatchewan Health Authority strategies, Ministry of Health guidelines, and applicable legislation. As an expert in immunization and communicable disease, the PHN Supervisor oversees program planning, implementation, evaluation, surveillance, and reporting; supports quality assurance and maintenance of immunization databases; and provides mentorship, supervision, orientation and professional guidance to in-scope nursing staff. The position promotes evidence-based practice, staff development, and continuous quality improvement, and serves as a key clinical resource through multidisciplinary collaboration with operational leaders, physicians, inspectors, and community partners to ensure consistent, coordinated public health service delivery across multiple sites and regions.

Education

  • Bachelor of Science in Nursing (BScN)

Skills

  • Public Health Child Health Clinic

Experience

  • Experience in community needs assessment/development, health promotion
  • Five years of public health experience in immunization and CD, preferred


Knowledge & Abilities

  • Ability to ensure educational materials are accurate and relevant
  • Knowledge of best practices in harm reduction strategies
  • Reviews Public Health programs & works with Mgmt to review policies
  • Knowledge in population and public health concepts
  • Knowledge of the electronic immunization database called Panorama
  • Ability to collaborate with MHO and SHA on public communications
  • Possess effective communication skills with the ability to relate to individuals
  • Knowledge of best practices in harm reduction strategies
  • Knowledge in current principles and practices of immunization
  • Knowledge in immunology and biologicals used for immunizations
  • Knowledge in Microsoft Office Suite
  • Ability to provide leadership in public health planning and implementation
  • Knowledge of HIPA
  • Ability to support intersectoral collaboration and partnerships
  • Knowledge of the Sask Public Health Act & Communicable Disease Control Regs
  • Knowledge of trauma informed practice
  • Demonstrated knowledge in media communication and social marketing.
  • Knowledge in current principles and practices of immunization
  • Ability to plan, develop and oversee disease surveillance programs.
  • Knowledge in current principles and practices of immunization

Other Education & Training

  • Master’s in nursing, community health & epidemiology, or public health preferred
  • Current CPR Level C
