Under the direction of a Program Manager and working within an interdisciplinary mental health and addiction team, the Community Mental Health Nurse will provide a range of clinical services to a population of acute and persistent mental health disordered children, youth and their families. The Community Mental Health Nurse will use clinical knowledge and interpersonal skills in all aspects of professional practice pertinent to the Psychiatric Nursing Discipline. The incumbent will provide clinical nursing skills in the development and maintenance of community mental health treatment programs, and adhere to nursing practice standards.

Experience

  • 2yrs. (postgrad) recognized exp. in a CMH setting working w/ children & families

Education

  • Graduate from school of general nursing with training in psychiatric nursing
  • Graduation from an approved school of psychiatric nursing

Other Education and Training

  • Psychiatric Nursing diploma is acceptable

  • Highly developed written and oral communication skills
  • Ability to design, initiate and conduct training for other professionals

  • Knowledge in normal child and adolescent development and psychopathology
  • Broad knowledge of mental health community resources.
  • Ability to work within a change management model
  • Ability to identify, implement and evaluate areas of client difficulty.
  • Knowledge in various intervention strategies for individuals and groups
  • Knowledge of psychiatric nursing clinical standards of practice
  • knowledge and skills related to community psychiatric nursing practice
  • Knowledge and practical application of the Mental Health Services Act and Health Information Protection Act and other legislation
  • Knowledge of the diversity of cultures, values and traditions
  • Ability to document in a concise and timely manner
  • Ability to work independently and as a member of a multi-disciplinary team
  • Ability to provide public education regarding children/youth mental health issues
