The Emergency Psych. Nurse Coordinator, under direction of the Inpatient Mental Health Manager, exercises independence in the provision of individualized assessment/care to patients in the ER w/ mental health &/or chemical dependency problems. The Coordinator works closely w/ ER physicians, on-call psychiatrists, Mental Health Unit, Community Mental Health & Addiction Services, other SHA & community stakeholders to develop/deliver high quality services. The incumbent provides patient & family education/support while the patient is in the emergency department & acts as a role model/clinical resource. The Coordinator is responsible for caregiver policy/procedures dev’t such as clinical pathways. The incumbent is responsible to lead others through the dev’t of a long-term vision for this position through research, dev’t, coordination & evaluation. This nurse is expected to work as a part of the emergency service team in providing care to other patients in the emergency department.
