Salary or Pay Band: Pay Band Nurse B $42.040 to $52.440

As a member of an interdisciplinary team and under the supervision of the Team Leader, the incumbent will be responsible for creating a therapeutic environment in which you will deliver a high standard of care by counseling clients who are diagnosed with chemical dependency and Mental Health concerns. Responsibilities include providing informational programming as well as individual and group therapy sessions, assess for both physical and mental health problems, liaise and assist detox physicians with their detox practice, provide backup nursing services for the Harm Reduction Methadone Program and Drug Treatment Court and liaise with acute care facilities as per referrals into Addiction Services. You will also be expected to assist EMTs in performing their tasks, monitoring and occasionally providing Phlebotomy services at Detox. As a nurse you will administer medications and drug screening tests as required. Covid swabs and immunizations assessments may be required. You will provide medication education to clients and assist medical consultants for the Brief /Social Detox, Methadone Clinic and Drug Treatment Court and other nursing duties as required.

Experience:

  • Minimum 2 years of experience in a mental health and addiction setting is required. Community experienced is preferred.
  • Demonstrated clinical expertise in assessment, diagnosis and treatment of major mental health disorders, withdrawal, addiction medicine and substance dependency issues.


Education

  • Graduate from an approved School of Psychiatric Nursing or graduation from an approved school of general nursing supplemented by recognized experience in Mental Health or Addiction setting.

Knowledge & Abilities

  • Excellent knowledge and skills related to medical, psychological and nutritional needs of individuals with substance dependence.
  • Knowledge of evidenced based practices in treating concurrent, substance dependent and mental health patients.
  • Excellent knowledge of mood altering medications and how these affect clients.
  • Demonstrated competency in psychiatric mental health assessment.
  • A demonstrable knowledge of substance dependency/co-dependency and the effects on the family unit.
  • Ability to accurately assess substance dependency/dual diagnosis/co-dependency and make appropriate recovery plans and referrals.
  • Demonstrates knowledge of screening and assessment tools and procedures.
  • Knowledge of Indigenous culture and practices.
  • Knowledge of group dynamics.
  • Demonstrates knowledge of a Holistic Addiction Treatment Model and the Transtheoretical Model of Change.
  • Ability to develop and present workshops and lecture material to clients and the community.
  • Ability to work with a multi-disciplinary team of professionals.
  • Ability to communicate effectively orally and in writing.
  • Knowledge of community resources in the addictions field.
  • Ability to work independently to plan and priorize workload demands.
  • Knowledge of best practices in harm reduction strategies.


Other Information

  • Current registration with the Registration Psychiatric Nursing Association of Saskatchewan (CRPNS) or College of Registered Nurses of Saskatchewan (CRNS) is required.
  • Current PART and CPR certification required.
  • Valid driver’s license and use of a vehicle for work.
