Examples of duties

This position supports individualized care plans for inmates at SCI Laurel Highlands and plays an important role in daily long term care routines. You will assist licensed staff by carrying out essential health care and personal support tasks that ensure safety and comfort throughout the day. As a Nurse Aide, you will perform the following duties:

  • Monitoring Support: Check and record vital signs, height, and weight
  • Personal Care: Assist inmates with hygiene needs, bathing, dressing, and complete bed care
  • Safety Assistance: Provide position changes, ambulation help, transfer support, and monitor skin condition
  • Escort and Transport: Assist inmates with wheelchairs to medication lines, appointments, and diagnostic tests
  • Reporting Duties: Record, retrieve, and file information in the electronic health record
  • Cleanliness and Supplies: Maintain orderly work areas, sterilize equipment, and manage supply inventory

Work Schedule and Additional Information:

  • Full-time employment, 40 hours per week
  • The Department of Corrections is staffed by three (3) work shifts that cover the facility 24 hours a day, 7 days a week, 365 days a year.
  • 1st shift: 6:00 AM to 2:30 PM; 2nd shift: 2:00 PM to 10:30 PM; and 3rd shift: 10:00 PM to 6:30 AM
  • You will have rotating days off.
  • Work hours TO BE DETERMINED
  • Telework: You will not have the option to telework in this position.
  • Salary: In some cases, the starting salary may be non-negotiable.

Qualifications

QUALIFICATIONS

Minimum Experience and Training Requirements:

  • Active registration as a Nurse Aide in the Pennsylvania Nurse Aide Registry; or
  • Six months of paid experience in the care and treatment of geriatric or physically ill patients or residents.

Special Requirement:

  • This position is assigned to a long-term or specialized care facility and requires active registration as a Nurse Aide in the Pennsylvania Nurse Aide Registry.

Additional Requirements:

  • Successful completion of basic training in Elizabethtown, PA is required.
  • You must be able to perform essential job functions.
