Job Description

Savannah River National Laboratory (SRNL) is seeking to hire a Nuclear Criticality Safety Engineer. In this role, you’ll be part of a team that prevents accidental nuclear chain reactions—one of the most important safety responsibilities in our industry. You’ll work alongside experienced engineers and scientists, contribute to real-world safety evaluations, and help ensure our operations meet the highest safety standards. Your work will directly protect our people, our community, and our mission.

  • Assist in developing and reviewing nuclear criticality safety evaluations (NCSEs) under the guidance of senior staff.
  • Support hazard analyses and help identify safety controls for processes involving fissile materials.
  • Participate in facility walkdowns to observe operations and verify compliance with safety requirements.
  • Help prepare technical documentation and reports for internal and regulatory review.
  • Learn and apply nuclear analysis tools such as MCNP, SCALE, or KENO.
  • Attend training sessions and workshops to expand your technical and regulatory knowledge.

Minimum Qualifications:

  • Bachelor’s degree in Nuclear Engineering, Physics, Mechanical Engineering, or a related technical field.
  • At least 4 years of experience working in a DOE nuclear facility in a technical, safety, or operations role.
  • Familiarity with DOE nuclear safety culture and operational protocols.
  • Strong analytical and problem-solving skills.
  • Ability to work collaboratively in a multidisciplinary team environment.
  • Clear communication skills and attention to detail.
  • A safety-first mindset and willingness to ask questions and seek guidance.

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Active Security Clearance
