specialist tooling for Watson Marlow Fluid Technology Solutions. Using CNC
machinery, CAD/CAM, advanced metrology systems & additive technology we
manufacture and inspect new product concepts and develop robust manufacturing
and inspection processes.

Working with Design,
Production and Process engineers, we ensure that prototype components are
manufactured to the highest quality and in a timely and efficient manner,
turning innovative ideas into reality and reducing time to market. The
successful applicant will work well as part of a highly skilled team & will
always be looking for opportunities to improve and enjoy supporting fast-paced
innovation in a market-leading global organisation.

Key accountabilities include:

  • Setting & operating CNC lathes & machining
    centres.
  • Taking responsibility for day-to-day care &
maintenance of machinery & ancillaries, including monitoring of coolant
    systems.
  • Using innovative & modern methods, you will be
planning the manufacture of components to best suit end-user requirements.
  • Working with our design team, you will be involved
in the inspection & measurement of prototype parts using conventional
measuring instruments & state of the art methods such as a CMM (Coordinate Measuring
Machine). This will extend beyond components manufactured on site to bought-in
parts such as mouldings & castings.
  • Using additive manufacturing technology to rapidly
produce prototype parts, fixturing & tooling.
  • Discussing concepts with design, production &
process engineers to advise on best practice for DfM (Design for Manufacture).
  • Regular involvement in the design & manufacture
of tooling & fixturing to enable component manufacture & aid with
    constant improvement of processes.
  • Maintaining condition & stock levels of cutting
tools used in the NPI workshop to ensure that we always have the required
    hardware.

working procedures to ensure efficiency & consistency is maintained.

Skills/Experience:

We welcome
applications from both experienced precision engineers looking to bring their
expertise to a dynamic workshop team and motivated individuals eager to launch
or build a career in hands-on engineering. Relevant experience can come from
professional roles, apprenticeships, education, personal projects, or hobby
work—we value demonstrated mechanical aptitude, problem-solving, and a
commitment to quality above all.

Core practical engineering
& workshop skills (developed through any combination of the
following):

  • Hands-on experience in mechanical, technical, or fabrication settings—such as
    professional workshops, CNC/precision manufacturing environments,
school/college/university projects, apprenticeships, maker spaces, DIY/hobby
builds, automotive/motorcycle/bicycle repair, model making, woodworking,
metalworking, robotics, or home engineering projects.
  • Proven
ability (or strong demonstrated potential) to safely operate, set up, and
maintain machine tools—including CNC mills, CNC lathes, and/or conventional
machinery—with attention to workholding, tool selection, fixturing, material
    handling, and workshop best practices.
  • Experience
(professional or project-based) reading, interpreting, and working from
engineering drawings, technical sketches, specifications, or CAD models to
    produce accurate, high-quality components.
  • Familiarity
with precision metrology and quality checks, such as using calipers,
micrometers, gauges, first-off inspections, in-process verification, or basic
    CMM principles.
  • Exposure
to CNC operations—including setup, running programs, maintaining tolerances,
    and/or basic G-code understanding—is highly valued; senior-level candidates
will demonstrate independent programming/editing (via G-code and/or CAM
software) and consistent production of precision parts.
  • Knowledge
of additive manufacturing/3D printing (beneficial at any level) and its
integration with subtractive processes—e.g., printing near-net-shape parts for
CNC finishing, creating custom fixtures/jigs, or applying Design for Additive
    Manufacturing principles.
  • Previous
use of CAD/CAM software (e.g., Autodesk Fusion 360, SolidWorks, FreeCAD,
Onshape, Mastercam, or similar) at any level—from introductory modeling/3D
print prep to advanced toolpath generation—is advantageous.
