Job Description

As NPI Engineer of optical professional, this role needs to understand the new product optical function designs, define and execute the manufacturing test plan from optical perspective, solve the process and product optical issues during sample build and pilot verification stage, to ensure decent yield for volume production. The products cover opto-electrical module, linecard, sub-system and integrated line system for communication.

Duties & Responsibilities

NPI product owner - 80%

  • Engage with design team from development stage to understand new product optical design and test requirement, provide optical process (optical fiber splice, Erbium Fiber KGC, KFS etc.) assessment and optical test coverage proposal
  • Support design team on new module, line card optical bring up, may engage manual calibration and steady states test for early sample delivery
  • Define the Mfg. test items and Pass/Fail criteria from optical perspective for optical and electrical layer module, line card, integrated line system box with design team support
  • Work with test development team to execute optical related test procedures, validate test methods and analyze results, which may cover functional, system optical link, sanity, environmental stress test etc.
  • Lead the product optical failures diagnosis including define, analyze and validate the issue, track the improvement and resolution to ensure meeting target yield of production

Mass and / or transfer product support - 10%

  • Provide technical support upon product knowledge, process knowhow, test coverage improvement in factory mass production
  • Review test bench expansion correlation and yield improvement
  • Support on cost reduction proposal, verification and implementation
  • Update and release BOM etc. manufacturing related documents

Customer focus - 10%

  • Provide timely response and technical support for RMA of both NPI and mass product
  • Acquiring manufacturing process/product/component builds history datum to R&D or customer when there is need

Qualification & Requirements

Education & Experience

  • BS degree is required, and master’s degree is preferred, major in Optics, Optical Engineering, Physics or equivalent technical discipline from an accredited college or university
  • More than 3 years of working experience in fiber optics or optical fiber communication products or related industry in global companies.

Skills & Other Requirements

  • Knowledge of optical fiber communication, laser and / or EDFA principles
  • Proficiency in using tools such as OSA, Power Meter, Optical Switch, Oscilloscopes and related optical test instruments to independently complete diagnose task
  • Familiar with active and passive components, module, line card, transceivers and their test methods in optical fiber communication
  • Good team spirit and communication skills, with the ability to collaborate closely with R&D and production team
  • Good understanding on new product introduction and manufacturing bring up is a plus.
