Job Description

Are you ready to make a real impact on the world of robotics? At Teradyne Robotics, a division of Teradyne, we are revolutionizing industries through cutting-edge collaborative and autonomous mobile robotic technologies. As part of our team, you’ll work with global leaders Universal Robots (UR) and Mobile Industrial Robots (MiR), driving innovation that enhances manufacturing, logistics and workplaces across the world.

Are you an Engineer who enjoys working with suppliers, influencing product decisions, and driving business outcomes—not just designing products?

Teradyne Robotics is looking for a Commodity Manager who brings a strong technical foundation and is ready to leverage that expertise in a strategic supply chain role. This position is ideal for an experienced Mechanical, Manufacturing, Industrial, or Product Engineer looking to transition into procurement, sourcing, and supplier management while remaining close to technology and product development.

In this role, you'll work at the intersection of Engineering, Operations, and Supply Chain, helping shape sourcing strategies for innovative robotics products from concept through production.

Key responsibilities

As our new NPI Commodity Manager, you will become a trusted partner to Engineering teams, using your technical knowledge to make informed sourcing decisions and build a robust supply base.

You will

  • Participate in make-versus-buy decisions for new products.

  • Evaluate supplier capabilities, manufacturing technologies, and technical risks.

  • Identify and develop suppliers that can support future product roadmaps.

  • Partner with Engineering teams to influence supplier and technology selection early in the design process.

  • Lead supplier selection, qualification, and commercial negotiations.

  • DeveTeradyne lop cost models and support cost reduction initiatives throughout the product lifecycle.

  • Build strategic supplier relationships that drive innovation, quality, and responsiveness.

  • Manage supply risks, supplier performance, and business continuity.

  • Work cross-functionally with Engineering, Operations, Program Management, and Manufacturing teams to ensure successful product launches.

  • Be expected to travel 10-15% a year.

About You

You may currently be working as:

  • Mechanical Engineer

  • Manufacturing Engineer

  • Industrial Engineer

  • Product Engineer

  • NPI Engineer

  • Supplier Quality Engineer

  • Production Engineer

And now you’re looking for an opportunity to broaden your impact beyond technical design and manufacturing.

You enjoy

  • Understanding how products are made.

  • Working with suppliers and manufacturing partners.

  • Influencing business decisions.

  • Negotiating and building relationships.

  • Solving complex technical and commercial challenges.

Qualifications

Required

  • Degree in Engineering (Mechanical, Manufacturing, Industrial, Production, or similar).

  • Several years of experience in product development, manufacturing, NPI, supplier quality, industrialization, or related technical roles.

  • Strong understanding of manufacturing processes and fabrication technologies.

  • Ability to read and interpret engineering drawings.

  • Strong analytical and problem-solving skills.

  • Excellent communication and stakeholder management abilities.

  • Interest in developing expertise within sourcing, procurement, and supplier management.

Preferred

  • Experience working directly with suppliers.

  • Exposure to cost analysis, manufacturing sourcing decisions, or supplier development.

  • Knowledge of ERP systems and strong Excel skills.

  • Experience supporting New Product Introduction (NPI) activities.

  • MBA, APICS, ISM, or other supply chain certifications are a plus.

Why This Role?

This is not a traditional procurement position focused solely on purchasing activities.

Instead, you'll have the opportunity to:

  • Apply your engineering expertise in a strategic business role.

  • Influence key technology and supplier decisions.

  • Develop commercial and negotiation skills.

  • Gain exposure to senior stakeholders across the organization.

  • Help bring innovative robotics products to market.

  • Build a long-term career path within supply chain leadership.

At Teradyne Robotics, we believe the best sourcing decisions are often made by people who understand the technology. If you're an engineer ready to expand your impact and move closer to business strategy, supplier partnerships, and product success, we'd love to hear from you.
