Job Description

About us

The Refurbishment & Optimisation Operations team plays a critical role in leading refurbishment, strengthening synergies with repair, and driving operational excellence by enhancing the efficiency and sustainability. We are responsible for extending the lifecycle of our products through strategic refurbishment, while also driving continuous improvement initiatives aimed at optimizing processes and overall operational performance.

About the role

The NPD Refurbishment & Circularity Engineering Manager is an engineering-focused leadership role responsible for integrating new product development (NPD) with Dyson’s refurbishment and circular economy strategies. This role ensures that new Dyson products are designed and launched with refurbishment and sustainability in mind – from the earliest design concepts through to full production and aftersales. Based in Malaysia (Global Development Campus), the role operates in a highly matrixed environment where success depends on strong technical leadership and cross-functional collaboration.

Reporting to the Global Director of Refurbishment Operations, the NPD Refurbishment & Circularity Engineering Manager will bridge Dyson’s product design teams with its global operations. You will collaborate closely with Research, Design & Development (RDD), Manufacturing, Supply Chain, Quality, and Sustainability teams to embed refurbishment requirements and circular design principles into Dyson’s product development process. This is not a traditional engineering manager role confined to a single function – it requires a strategic mindset and hands-on approach to translate circular economy strategy into practical engineering solutions and processes. You will need to lead through influence, provide deep technical insight, and drive changes across multiple teams without direct authority, ensuring that new products meet Dyson’s high standards for quality, cost-efficiency, and sustainability from Day 1 of launch.

In Summary, you will lead the integration of refurbishment and circularity into Dyson’s new product development (NPD) process. Ensure new products are designed for refurbish-ability and sustainability from concept through launch. Collaborate across RDD, Engineering, Supply Chain, and external partners to deliver scalable, cost-effective, and high-quality refurbishment solutions globally.

Key Responsibilities

  • NPD Integration: Embed refurbishment and circularity requirements into product design and development. Ensure new products are refurbishment-ready at launch.

  • Engineering Leadership: Develop and implement refurbishment processes, SOPs, and quality standards for new products. Lead technical problem-solving and continuous improvement.

  • Cross-Functional Collaboration: Act as the central liaison between RDD, Engineering, Operations, and external partners. Influence without authority to align priorities and drive execution.

  • Data & Reporting: Track refurbishment readiness and performance metrics. Use data to inform decisions and report progress to senior stakeholders.

  • Design for Circularity: Collaborate with design, materials, and sustainability teams to identify opportunities for using recycled or recyclable materials, designing for repair and reuse, and reducing waste.

  • Technical Problem-Solving & Continuous Improvement: Troubleshoot complex refurbishment challenges. Lead root-cause analysis on refurbishment yield issues or quality defects for new products, and work with design and operations teams to implement design changes or process improvements.

About you

  • Degree in Engineering (Mechanical, Manufacturing, Electrical, etc.)

  • 5–8+ years in NPD, manufacturing, or refurbishment-related roles

  • Experience bridging R&D and operations is highly desirable

  • Engineering & Technical Skills: In-depth understanding of product development lifecycles and manufacturing processes

  • Experience with refurbishment, repair, or reverse logistics preferred

  • Strong technical, analytical, and stakeholder management skills

  • Leadership & Collaboration: Demonstrated ability to lead cross-functional initiatives or project teams

  • Proficient in Excel and Power BI; knowledge of ERP/MES systems is a plus

Ways of Working

  • Strategic thinker with hands-on execution

  • Structured & Execution-Focused: Highly organized and delivery-oriented

  • Problem Solver & Innovator

  • Creative Engineering Mindset

  • Clear communicator across functions and cultures

  • Resilient, pragmatic, and delivery-focused

  • Passionate about sustainability and circular design
