Job Description

The Applied AI & Cyber Security Lead is a senior technical role spanning operational technology (OT), control systems, OT cyber security and practical AI adoption. The role leads two formal workstreams: strengthening secure project delivery and reusable cyber security capability for critical infrastructure; and identifying, validating and progressing valuable AI applications across engineering processes and business processes.

The role provides architecture direction, technical leadership and cross-functional influence. It connects engineering needs, business value, data, security and AI to deliver secure, measurable and scalable outcomes for GE Vernova and its customers in electric utility and industrial markets.

Key Responsibilities:

OT Cyber Security
• Lead the development of departmental OT cyber security capability, including reusable architectures, design patterns, standards, guidance, training and knowledge sharing.
• Analyse customer cyber security requirements and translate them into project-specific security architectures, requirements and technical documentation.
• Develop and review OT cyber security architectures for SCADA and control systems in critical infrastructure, aligned with IEC 62443 and applicable customer standards.
• Lead cyber security design and technical risk reviews, identify gaps and define proportionate mitigations.
• Provide technical direction to project, tendering, commercial and engineering teams during project delivery.
• Support secure system engineering and testing, including customer discussions and resolution of project security issues.
• Collaborate with IT, OT and engineering stakeholders to embed cyber security within project and product practices.
• Reduce reliance on individual experts by developing competence, standard solutions and an accessible departmental knowledge base.

Applied AI
• Establish and manage a prioritised pipeline of AI use cases across engineering processes and business processes.
• Evaluate use cases for business value, technical feasibility, data availability and quality, security, implementation risk and adoption needs.
• Lead development PoCs and MVPs using AI, ML, LLM, RAG, automation or other suitable approaches, selecting the most proportionate technical solution.
• Define success criteria and evaluate solutions against measurable technical performance, user value and business outcomes.
• Define secure AI adoption principles, reference architectures and practical guidance for governance, scalability, responsible use and lifecycle management.
• Work with global AI, engineering, product, IT, cyber security and innovation teams to reuse existing capabilities and avoid duplicated effort.
• Translate successful experiments into implementation proposals covering architecture, ownership, controls, resources and next steps.
• Create reusable tools, methods and lessons learned, enabling engineering teams to adopt AI consistently and securely.

Essential Qualifications:
• Educational background: Bachelor’s degree in Engineering, Computer Science, Information Technology or a related discipline, or equivalent relevant experience.
• Experience: Significant experience in OT, control systems, industrial automation or SCADA engineering, including project delivery under constraints, customer requirements analysis, and architecture, design or technical risk reviews.
• Technical skills:
o Strong understanding of OT cyber security architecture, IEC 62443 principles, technical risk and secure system design.
o Practical understanding of AI/ML concepts and the AI solution lifecycle, supported by hands-on development or delivery experience.
o Ability to integrate engineering, business, data, security and implementation considerations using systems thinking and sound judgement.
• Leadership: Demonstrated technical leadership, cross-functional communication and stakeholder management, with the ability to establish priorities, influence without formal authority and deliver measurable outcomes in ambiguous areas.
• Travel: Ability to travel locally and globally as required.

Desired Characteristics:
• Practical experience with Python, data science and ML frameworks.
• Experience developing AI PoCs or MVPs, including LLM, RAG or AI agent solutions.
• Knowledge of AI evaluation, MLOps, data architecture or cloud platforms.
• Knowledge of secure AI, AI governance, responsible AI or AI risk management.
• Relevant cyber security certification, such as CISSP, GICSP or CISM.
• Postgraduate study in Data Science, Artificial Intelligence, Cyber Security or a related discipline.
• Experience in power transmission, utilities or other critical infrastructure environments.
• Experience working across global or matrixed organisations and building reusable technical capabilities or communities of practice.

Benefits:
• Competitive salary and performance-based bonuses.
• Comprehensive health, dental, and vision insurance.
• Retirement savings plan with employer matching.
• Professional development opportunities and certification reimbursement.
• Flexible working arrangements.
