Job Description

The successful candidate will contribute to the Success of the Nondestructive (NDT) Engineering Vendor Supplier Oversight organization at Electric Boat by providing technical evaluation, guidance, and expertise in the Radiographic Testing (RT), Ultrasonic Testing (UT) and Visual Testing (VT) / Magnetic Particle (MT) / Penetrant Testing (PT) methods. Primary responsibilities are performing audits of Supplier inspection personnel during In-Depth Supplier Assessments (ISA) as the technical expert on NDT, reviewing Vendor NDT Procedures, monitoring supplier NDT execution, and monitoring the health of each supplier NDT program.

Additional responsibilities will include:

  • (For RT Examiners) Review Supplier film for Procedure Qualification Reports, Shooting Sketches for castings, and various other radiography assessments.
  • Evaluate and ensure vendor compliance with fabrication and NDT Submarine specification requirements.
  • Maintain company standards, procedures, best practices, and process improvements in the field of NDT.
  • Providing technical guidance, expertise, and problem resolution for material suppliers.
  • Continuous engagement with Supplier Quality Assurance, Purchasing, Design and Engineering departments as well as Supervisor of Shipbuilding and NAVSEA Customer representatives.
  • Monitor supplier NDT practice, review supplier NDT training programs, and evaluate the health of each supplier NDT program.
  • Attend In-Depth Supplier Assessments (ISA) as the technical expert on NDT.
  • Preparing technical reports as result of ISA findings, research and development, and problem resolution investigations.
  • Applicants must be able to qualify NAVSEA 250-1500-1 (RT/UT/MT/PT/VT) Examiner within 9 months of hiring date.
  • Travel is estimated to be 15% per work year.

Qualifications

Minimum Requirements:

  • High-school diploma or GED
  • Presently or previously certified in RT and/or UT as a Level III (OR a minimum 5 years’ experience as a Level II)
  • Applicant must be able to read, write, and interpret specifications, procedures, reports, and other documents
  • Basic computer skills, including use of Microsoft Word, Excel, Access, and Power Point (or equivalent)
  • Ability to serve as project lead or technical expert on ISA's
  • Applicant must have the ability to understand basic principles of multiple NDT methods and applications to determine weld and base metal performance

Preferred:

  • Presently or previously certified in multiple NDT methods (RT / UT and/or PT, MT, VT) as a Level II or III
  • A background in engineering or engineering support
  • Experience in Quality in an industrial environment, shipbuilding or other heavy fabrication
  • Familiarity with Military specifications (T9074-AS-GIB-010/271 and NAVSEA 250-1500-1)
