About Augsburg PA
Established in 1994, Augsburg PA is Minnesota's first PA program. Augsburg was also the first in the state to launch the Doctor of Medical Science degree for PAs and, in 2026, the first to formally adopt the national professional title of Physician Associate. The 27-month program includes 15 months of clinically integrated coursework followed by 12 months of supervised clinical rotations at sites across Minnesota, the Upper Midwest, and beyond. Students build practice-ready skills through case-based learning, projects, and hands-on training, including simulation and point of care ultrasound (POCUS).
PA Program Mission
The Augsburg PA program is dedicated to educating compassionate, community-oriented, and forward-thinking health care professionals who are prepared to practice in primary care and address a wide range of patient needs. The program emphasizes team-based learning to prepare students for collaborative patient care, grounded in connection, respect, and innovation.
The program's goal is to develop informed citizens, thoughtful stewards, and critical thinkers who are equipped to provide high-quality care across varied clinical and community settings.
The Physician Associate (PA) Studies Program at Augsburg University invites candidates to apply for a
full-time, non-tenure-track faculty position. This renewable 3-year special appointment blends clinical
phase coordination with didactic teaching and program support.
At least 0.5 full-time equivalent (FTE) of this 1.0 FTE appointment is dedicated to the clinical phase. In
this role, the faculty member works alongside the Director of Clinical Education (DCE) to develop and
maintain clinical sites with the clinical team, conduct site visits, advise and coach students through their clinical experiences, and assess student and site performance during the clinical phase.
The remaining effort supports the didactic phase and broader program needs. Depending on program
priorities and the candidate's strengths, this may include classroom and skills instruction, accreditation compliance with the Accreditation Review Commission on Education for the Physician Assistant (ARC-PA) Standards, program assessment, and, for qualified candidates, teaching in the department's Doctor of Medical Science (DMSc) program.
The successful candidate is a self-motivated team member looking to grow their own educational and
professional experience, as well as the program's. This person will work well in collaboration with a cohesive and experienced group of faculty and professional staff.
