Job Description

The University of Rochester Medical Center is seeking a board-certified or board-eligible cardiologist with advanced expertise in echocardiography and structural heart imaging. This position combines 0.5 FTE in cardiovascular imaging with 0.5 FTE in non-invasive general cardiology.

Position Responsibilities

Cardiovascular Imaging and Structural Heart Imaging – 0.5 FTE

• Interpret transthoracic and transesophageal echocardiograms, including complex and advanced studies.
• Perform and interpret three-dimensional echocardiography and other advanced echocardiographic imaging, as appropriate.
• Provide imaging support for the evaluation and longitudinal management of patients with structural and valvular heart disease.
• Participate in preprocedural planning and intraprocedural imaging for structural heart interventions, which may include:
• Collaborate closely with interventional cardiologists, cardiac surgeons, anesthesiologists, radiologists, sonographers, and other members of the multidisciplinary structural heart team.
• Participate in echocardiography laboratory quality assurance, protocol development, accreditation activities, and appropriate-use initiatives.
• Contribute to the education and supervision of cardiology fellows, residents, medical students, and echocardiography laboratory staff.

Clinical Cardiology – 0.5 FTE

• Provide outpatient general or consultative cardiology care through regularly scheduled clinics.
• Evaluate and manage patients with cardiovascular disease, including hypertrophic cardiomyopathy, valvular heart disease, coronary artery disease, heart failure, arrhythmias, and cardiovascular risk factors.
• Provide approximately four weeks of inpatient cardiology service per year.
• Collaborate with primary care physicians, cardiovascular subspecialists, and other clinical teams to ensure coordinated, patient-centered care.
• Participate in divisional conferences, case reviews, and other clinical and educational activities.

Academic Responsibilities

The successful candidate will be expected to contribute to the academic mission of the University of Rochester Medical Center through teaching, mentorship, clinical scholarship, quality improvement, or research. Academic rank and appointment will be commensurate with the candidate’s experience and qualifications.

Qualifications

Required Qualifications

• M.D. Degree or equivalent
• Must obtain a New York State Medical License prior to start date
• Eligible for a Faculty Appointment at the University of Rochester School of Medicine and Dentistry
• Must meet all credentialing requirements
• Eligible for Board Certification in Cardiovascular Disease
• Post offer Drug Screen and Health Assessment required
• Compliance with University and New York State health requirements
• Advanced training and demonstrated expertise in echocardiography.
• Experience in transesophageal, three-dimensional, and structural heart imaging.
• Strong clinical judgment, communication skills, professionalism, and commitment to multidisciplinary care.
• Demonstrated interest in teaching and working in an academic medical center.

Preferred Qualifications

• Additional fellowship training in advanced cardiovascular imaging or structural heart imaging.
• Experience providing intraprocedural imaging during structural heart interventions.
• Record of clinical research, educational scholarship, quality improvement, or program development.
• Board certification or eligibility in echocardiography through the National Board of Echocardiography is preferred.

The referenced pay range represents the University’s good faith and reasonable estimate of the base range of compensation for this faculty position. Individual salaries will be determined within the job’s salary range and established based on (but not limited to) market data, experience and expertise of the individual, and with consideration to related position salaries. Alignment of clinical incentive-based compensation may also be applicable and will be discussed during the hiring process.
