Job Overview
Southern Avenue Charter School is seeking dependable and enthusiastic Non-Certified Substitute Classroom Teachers to help maintain the continuity of student learning in the absence of regular teachers. This position is ideal for individuals who are passionate about working with children, possess strong communication skills, and can manage a classroom effectively, even without formal teaching certification. Substitute teachers are vital members of our school community and help create a safe, structured, and engaging learning environment.
Key Responsibilities
- Implement lesson plans and instructional materials left by the classroom teacher, or create engaging lessons when plans are not available.
- Maintain a classroom environment conducive to learning and appropriate to the maturity and interests of the students.
- Establish and maintain effective classroom management and discipline procedures.
- Provide feedback to the regular teacher regarding student performance and behavior.
- Follow school policies, procedures, and routines with consistency and professionalism.
- Adapt teaching methods and instructional materials to meet students’ varying needs and interests.
- Uphold the mission and values of Southern Avenue Charter School in all interactions with students, staff, and families.
- Communicate clearly and effectively with students, staff, and administrators.
- Supervise students in the classroom, hallways, cafeteria, playground, or on field trips as assigned.
- Maintain confidentiality of student and school information.

Qualifications

Qualifications
- Education: High school diploma or GED required; some college coursework or associate’s/bachelor’s degree preferred.
- Certification: Teaching license not required; must meet local or state requirements for non-certified substitute teachers.

Experience:
- - Prior experience working with children or youth in a school, camp, daycare, or community setting preferred.
- - Classroom management experience a plus.

Work Schedule
- On-call basis during the regular academic school year
- Monday–Friday, 7:30 AM – 3:15 PM (varies by assignment)
- Opportunities for half-day, full-day, short-term, or long-term assignments
