The Night Shift Warehouse Supervisor is responsible for supporting and supervising nightly warehouse operations within a fast-paced unionized distribution environment, with primary focus on outbound order fulfillment and delivery preparation activities. This position works directly alongside the Night Shift Assistant Warehouse Manager to ensure customer orders are picked accurately, staged properly, and completed on time to support daily truck loading and delivery operations.
The Night Shift Warehouse Supervisor provides direct oversight of warehouse employees during nightly operations and is responsible for maintaining productivity, safety, operational consistency, housekeeping standards, and employee accountability throughout the shift.
This role supports operational execution while reinforcing company policies, union work rules, warehouse procedures, and performance expectations.
ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS
Outbound Picking & Warehouse Operations
• Supervise daily outbound picking operations to ensure customer orders are completed accurately, efficiently, and on schedule.
• Monitor picking workflow, labor allocation, and operational priorities throughout the shift.
• Ensure all routed deliveries are properly picked, staged, and prepared for outbound loading.
• Assist with replenishment, inventory movement, and warehouse organization activities as operational needs require.
• Ensure warehouse operational procedures and workflow standards are consistently followed.
• Communicate operational issues, delays, shortages, and priority changes to warehouse leadership.
• Support warehouse teams in resolving operational bottlenecks and workflow interruptions.
• Work alongside warehouse employees to support operational execution and productivity goals.
Team Leadership & Employee Accountability
• Provide daily direction, coaching, and accountability for warehouse employees.
• Monitor employee productivity, attendance, work quality, and adherence to operational expectations.
• Hold employees accountable to productivity standards, work rules, attendance requirements, safety procedures, and workplace conduct expectations.
• Operate effectively within a unionized work environment while adhering to collective bargaining agreements, established work rules, and company policies.
• Maintain professional working relationships with union representatives and warehouse employees.
• Support onboarding and training of warehouse personnel.
• Assist warehouse leadership with employee coaching, performance discussions, and corrective actions.
• Promote teamwork, communication, accountability, and operational ownership.
Safety, Compliance & Housekeeping
• Maintain compliance with OSHA regulations, company safety policies, and warehouse operating procedures.
• Promote and reinforce safe work practices throughout the warehouse.
• Conduct safety observations and report unsafe conditions or behaviors promptly.
• Ensure powered industrial equipment inspections are completed and documented.
• Support investigations related to accidents, incidents, product damage, and near misses.
• Maintain warehouse cleanliness, organization, and housekeeping standards throughout operational areas.
• Execute warehouse cleaning schedules and maintain clean, safe, and organized work environments.
• Ensure aisles, pick locations, docks, staging areas, and workstations remain organized and operationally efficient.
Technology & Systems Utilization
• Ensure effective use of warehouse management systems (WMS), RF scanners, handheld devices, and warehouse technology.
• Monitor employee technology utilization and operational compliance.
• Ensure picks, replenishments, inventory movements, and operational system transactions are completed accurately.
• Support troubleshooting and escalation of warehouse system issues.
• Utilize operational reporting to monitor productivity and workflow performance.
Performance Management & Operational Support
• Monitor outbound productivity and warehouse operational performance.
• Support achievement of warehouse productivity, accuracy, and service goals.
• Assist warehouse leadership with identifying opportunities to improve warehouse flow and labor efficiency.
• Drive accountability for operational standards, productivity expectations, and warehouse procedures.
• Communicate operational priorities and shift expectations clearly to warehouse employees.
• Support continuous improvement initiatives focused on safety, productivity, accuracy, and operational efficiency.
MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS
• High school diploma or equivalent required.
• Associate degree in Supply Chain, Logistics, Operations, or related field preferred.
• Minimum 3–5 years of warehouse or distribution experience with prior leadership or supervisory experience preferred.
• Experience in a unionized warehouse or distribution environment preferred.
• Strong understanding of outbound picking, warehouse operations, inventory movement, and distribution processes.
• Working knowledge of powered industrial equipment including forklifts, reach trucks, pallet jacks, order pickers, and related warehouse equipment.
• Experience using warehouse management systems (WMS), RF scanners, and Microsoft Office applications.
• Strong communication, organizational, and problem-solving skills.
• Ability to manage multiple priorities in a fast-paced operational environment.
• Knowledge of warehouse safety standards and OSHA requirements.
Physical Requirements & Work Environment
• Ability to work in warehouse, dock, and distribution environments.
• Ability to stand and walk for extended periods.
• Ability to occasionally lift up to 50 pounds.
• Ability to work around powered industrial equipment and warehouse traffic.
• Ability to work overnight and flexible hours based on operational needs.
• Exposure to varying warehouse temperatures, noise levels, and operational environments.
