We're looking for a reliable and safety-conscious Plant Operator to join our Materials Recovery Facility (MRF) team. In this role, you'll be responsible for operating plant and machinery used to sort, process, and prepare recyclable materials, ensuring the facility runs safely, efficiently, and to the highest operational standards.
Working as part of a busy operations team, you'll help maximise recycling rates, maintain material quality, and support the smooth day-to-day running of the plant. This is a hands-on role suited to someone who enjoys working in a fast-paced industrial environment and takes pride in maintaining high standards of safety and performance.
Key Responsibilities
- Operate plant and equipment including conveyors, shredders, balers, screens, and sorting systems.
- Monitor equipment performance, identify faults, and report defects promptly.
- Ensure recyclable materials are processed efficiently and contamination is minimised.
- Carry out routine equipment inspections and basic maintenance tasks.
- Maintain high standards of housekeeping, keeping work areas clean, safe, and organised.
- Follow all health and safety procedures, risk assessments, and safe systems of work.
- Wear and maintain the correct PPE at all times.
- Record production data, downtime, and operational issues accurately.
- Communicate effectively during shift handovers and report any safety or operational concerns.
- Support continuous improvement by identifying opportunities to improve plant performance and efficiency.
Skills, Knowledge and Expertise
We're looking for someone with experience operating industrial plant who has a strong commitment to safety, teamwork, and operational excellence.
Essential:
- Previous experience operating industrial plant or machinery.
- Good understanding of health and safety practices within an industrial environment.
- Ability to work effectively in a fast-paced operational setting.
- Strong attention to detail and commitment to quality.
- Good communication skills and the ability to work as part of a team.
Desirable:
- Experience within the waste management or recycling industry.
- Mechanical knowledge or basic maintenance experience.
- Mobile plant licences (e.g. Forklift Truck or Loading Shovel).
- IOSH qualification or equivalent health and safety training.
