Job Description

Who We Are: NewsNation is a national news cable network currently reaching 75 million television households across the United States. The network is owned and operated by Nexstar Media Group (NXST). NewsNation is currently searching for a part-time Director for our national newscasts and opinion programs, based in our New York studios.

Key Responsibilities

  • Collaborate closely with newscast producers, executive producers, and showrunners to understand the content, tone, structure, and pace of broadcasts.
  • Lead on-air talent, technical directors, audio operators, stage crew, and floor directors to execute clean, dynamic, and engaging shows.
  • Bring creative ideas and visual enhancements to the final product, coordinating with the News and Creative Services departments to maximize the use of studio spaces and graphic elements.
  • Leverage in-depth knowledge of studio and remote broadcasting technology, including Steadicam and robotic cameras, media servers, and graphics systems. • Ensure smooth execution under pressure, troubleshooting technical issues and building effective workarounds on the fly when necessary.
  • Provide current references and demonstration reels (including the isolated director's audio track) upon

Qualifications & Skills:

  • Experience: Minimum of 5+ years of directing experience in professional live broadcast television required. ENPS experience is strongly preferred

. • Technical Knowledge: Comprehensive understanding of control room operations, broadcast automation (Ross Acuity, Ross Overdrive), and common business software applications (Microsoft Word, Excel, and Outlook).

  • Soft Skills: Exceptional multitasking abilities, quick thinking, and a proactive problem-solving mindset. Must thrive in a fast-paced, collaborative team environment.
  • Flexibility: Availability to work all day parts (mornings, evenings, weekends, and holidays) as part of a flexible schedule, with potential overtime as news situations demand.
  • Union Requirement: This is a Directors Guild of America (DGA) position; union membership in good standing is required.

Compensation:

  • Hourly Rate: $85.00 – $100.00/hr (commensurate with experience).
