ABC 17 News is looking for a Morning News Producer The right candidate will join a vibrant team of journalists who remain on the cutting edge of this constantly changing field.

The News Producer’s duties include assembling daily newscasts and assisting with the management of the station’s news website and other digital entities. The producer takes an active role in daily editorial discussions, builds the rundown, writes news scripts, communicates with the team, and times the broadcast. They may also edit the video and create graphics. The producer ensures every element of the newscast is fully prepared before airtime. They plan ahead, meet deadlines, and keep the production running smoothly for everyone involved. This includes having scripts completed, graphics finalized, video lists ready, accurate timing in place, and all essential information organized and accessible. You’ll be expected to function within the framework of a research-driven news department that emphasizes source cultivation, enterprise storytelling, and breaking news. Employee must have the flexibility to work across multiple platforms and could be called upon to send emails and make calls on news stories, work a beat, web edit, etc.

Qualifications:

The right candidate must be a strong writer, have good organizational skills, and superior news judgment. The producer will have an eye for video, graphics, and the elements that make a live television show more watchable. The candidate must work well under pressure, work well with other people, and meet strict deadlines. A college degree in journalism, communication, or a related field is preferred. Previous newsroom experience is a plus. The position could require the operation of a company vehicle or a personal vehicle for business use. Candidate must have a valid Missouri driver’s license and pass a drug test, background check, and MVR check.

Hours/Schedule:

This is a full-time position, scheduled Sunday through Thursday from 11:30 p.m. to 7:30 a.m. with flexibility required by the employee.
