About the Role:
Corus Entertainment and Global News are seeking an experienced and dynamic News Manager to lead the editorial and operations team at Global Halifax and Global New Brunswick.
Reporting to the Regional Director of News, Eastern Stations, this role is a key leadership opportunity to shape the vision, tone, and delivery of news content across the Maritimes.
You will inspire a high-performing team to deliver impactful, innovative journalism that informs and engages local communities across television, streaming, digital, and radio platforms.

You will contribute by:

• Lead and inspire a team of 20+ journalists and production staff delivering 30+ hours of original programming weekly, in addition to digital and radio content.
• Oversee all aspects of daily newsroom operations, including editorial planning, content development, and resource allocation.
• Set the tone, look, style, and pacing of newscasts, ensuring alignment with Global News editorial standards and values.
• Drive innovative storytelling by pitching, planning, and producing compelling local content
• Lead breaking news coverage and special programming execution.
• Collaborate with senior leadership and cross-functional teams (marketing, sales, and other Global affiliates) to align strategy and share resources.
• Oversee recruitment, hiring, and development of newsroom talent, fostering an inclusive and high-performance culture.
• Provide clear, constructive feedback to elevate content quality and support team growth.
• Coordinate with other Global News affiliates to support coverage and resource-sharing. Manage newsroom systems and ensure efficient planning and lineup execution.
• Perform other duties as required to support Global Maritimes.

Skills and experience you will bring:
The successful candidate will possess the following qualifications:

• Post-secondary education in journalism, broadcasting, or a related field (or equivalent experience).
• Minimum 10 years of experience in television news or broadcasting, leadership experience in a fast-paced newsroom considered an asset.
• Proven ability to lead, mentor, and develop teams.
• Strong editorial judgment with the ability to make quick, confident decisions, particularly during breaking news.
• Experience taking shows to air in a control room environment.
• Exceptional writing, storytelling, and communication skills.
• Strong organizational abilities and capacity to manage multiple priorities under tight deadlines.
• High level of comfort with newsroom technology and lineup management systems.
• Collaborative, creative mindset with a passion for local news and community storytelling.
• Ability to thrive under pressure in a deadline-driven environment
