Description:
KATC is looking for an engaging, energetic journalist to join our team as a Morning Anchor/Host. This position anchors our weekday morning newscasts while also reporting original stories for broadcast, digital, and social platforms. The ideal candidate is a strong communicator who can connect with viewers, handle breaking news, and contribute meaningful journalism both on the anchor desk and in the field.
Duties/Responsibilities include, but are not limited to:
* Anchor weekday morning newscasts and deliver news in an authoritative, conversational, and engaging manner.
* Help lead breaking news coverage and demonstrate strong ad-libbing skills during developing stories.
* Work closely with producers, meteorologists, and newsroom leadership to develop compelling and informative morning newscasts.
* Research, pitch, shoot, write and edit original stories for television, digital and social platforms.
* Develop sources and maintain strong relationships with people and organizations throughout Acadiana.
* Conduct live interviews and field reports, including coverage of breaking news and major community events.
* Write clear, accurate, and compelling broadcast and digital copy on deadline.
* Participate in editorial discussions and contribute story ideas that reflect the interests and concerns of our audience.
* Maintain an active and professional presence on social media and use digital platforms to engage with viewers and advance reporting.
* Represent KATC professionally at station-sponsored and community events.
* Maintain high journalistic and ethical standards and ensure all reporting is fair, accurate and properly sourced.
* Perform other duties as assigned based on newsroom and coverage needs.
Qualifications/Requirements:
* Previous professional television news experience is required.
* Strong on-air presentation skills with the ability to communicate naturally and confidently.
* Excellent writing, reporting and storytelling skills.
* Strong news judgment and an understanding of what makes a story relevant to a local audience.
* Ability to ad-lib effectively and remain composed during breaking news and other unscripted situations.
* Experience shooting and editing video and producing content independently in the field.
* Ability to work effectively under tight deadlines and manage multiple assignments.
* Strong interpersonal skills and the ability to collaborate with producers, reporters, photographers, meteorologists and newsroom leadership.
* Demonstrated ability to develop sources and generate original story ideas.
* Understanding of digital journalism, social media and multiplatform storytelling.
* Flexibility to work early mornings and adjust schedules when major breaking news or special coverage requires it.
* Bachelor’s degree in journalism, communications or a related field is preferred, or an equivalent combination of education and professional experience.
