Job Description

The New Unit Spares (NUS) Parts Engineer provides technical support for Recommended Spares for New Unit projects and New Unit Commissioning Spares during the ITO and OTR phases. Recommended Spares for New Unit projects are spare parts proposed for reliable operation and maintainability of a new unit after handover, based on the unit configuration, technical documentation, and customer-specific requirements.
New Unit Commissioning Spares are spare parts identified, prepared, and supplied to support commissioning and early operation of a new unit, helping ensure that critical parts are available when needed during site start-up and handover. In this role, the engineer defines part numbers for descriptions listed in the NUS contract or customer-specific scope, manages related engineering activities in the Parts organization’s ERP systems, and collaborates with CM Services, NUS Project Managers, commissioning, customer-facing teams, and customer representatives to keep NUS projects on track.

Roles and Responsibilities

  • Support NUS proposals in ITO, or pre-ITO where applicable, by refining templates used by NUS Project Managers in collaboration with the Configuration Management (CM) Services team, or by defining part numbers for customer-specific Recommended Spares scope using the Bill of Materials from comparable units.

  • Support NUS projects in OTR by defining part numbers for Recommended Spares and New Unit Commissioning Spares captured in the NUS contract, using the Bill of Materials of the actual unit where available.

  • Handle undefined lines in the Parts business ERP systems for additional NUS project scope and perform part-to-unit verifications for selected items, such as gas turbine capital parts on Sales Order lines.

  • Coordinate the work of the CM Services team and NUS Project Managers to ensure timely and effective support for NUS projects in OTR.

  • Collaborate with customer-facing teams, and where needed directly with customers, to clarify intended scope and ensure alignment on customer-specific requirements.

  • Proactively assess workload, communicate priorities, and request additional support within the CM Services team when workload peaks require shared support.

Required Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s degree in Mechanical, Electrical, Energy Engineering, Mechatronics, or a related technical field; equivalent practical experience may also be considered where applicable.

  • Ability to read, interpret, and understand technical documentation such as technical drawings, Bills of Materials, material specifications, electrical schematic diagrams, system block diagrams, and recommended spare parts lists.

  • Good digital skills, including confidence using Microsoft Outlook, Excel, Word, PowerPoint, and related business tools.

  • Ability to communicate effectively in English, both written and spoken.

  • Willingness and ability to learn business operating systems quickly and effectively.

  • Ability to manage daily tasks, follow up on priorities, and maintain progress on open items.

  • Ability to prioritize work effectively and execute assigned tasks with ownership.

  • Ability to work successfully in a matrixed, cross-functional environment.

  • Collaborative working style with a professional, respectful, and inclusive approach.

  • Ability to communicate and build effective working relationships across functions.

  • Detail-oriented, organized, and conscientious team member with a strong sense of ownership.

Desired Characteristics

  • Strong oral and written communication skills, with the ability to explain technical topics clearly to different audiences.

  • Knowledge of GE Heavy Duty technologies, including GT, generator, and steam turbine equipment, as well as auxiliaries, balance of plant, HRSG, and related F2F scope, is beneficial.

  • Experience with part number definition based on technical descriptions is beneficial.

  • Curiosity, willingness to learn, and openness to different perspectives, experiences, and ways of working.
