About this job:

The Itinerant New Teacher Ambassador is an experienced Exceptional Student Services (ESS) Itinerant teacher who, in addition to providing high quality services within their own assigned schools, extends their impact by supporting newly hired itinerant teachers within their department. This role provides social emotional support, mentorship, and department specific guidance to both novice and experienced teachers who are new to the department, fostering a sense of community, belonging, confidence, and understanding of their role. Serves as a communication liaison by reinforcing information shared by department leadership, connecting new staff with available resources, and promoting consistent implementation of departmental practices and expectations. Through relationship building, mentorship, and ongoing support, this role contributes to teacher well being, successful onboarding, and long term retention while helping cultivate a collaborative, supportive, and consistent department culture. This role does not include release time. Responsibilities are fulfilled in addition to the teacher's regular itinerant teaching responsibilities.

What You'll Do:

  • Supports a caseload of up to five (5) newly hired itinerant teachers within their department by facilitating a successful onboarding experience that increases understanding of district culture, department expectations, organizational structure, systems, procedures, and available resources.
  • Serves as a consistent communication liaison between department leadership and new teachers by disseminating timely information, reinforcing key messages, and connecting staff with appropriate contacts and resources.
  • Supports new teachers in understanding certification, licensure, induction, and department specific professional requirements, including monitoring progress toward required milestones and connecting teachers with available supports as appropriate.
  • Provides logistical guidance to help new teachers successfully navigate department operations, including onboarding tasks, department contacts, required timelines, and orientation to departmental processes
  • Increases awareness and effective use of district systems, evaluation frameworks, instructional and service delivery expectations, and professional learning opportunities, including district required platforms, culturally responsive practices, and other required professional development
  • Provides ongoing mentorship and individualized support through regular check-ins, coaching conversations, and timely responses to questions and concerns throughout the first year
  • Facilitates a cohort model for new itinerant teachers by organizing regular meetings that address common questions, encourage collaboration, promote problem solving, and strengthen professional connections
  • Fosters a welcoming, inclusive department culture by promoting relationship building, facilitating networking opportunities, and supporting teachers' social emotional well-being and sense of belonging
  • Contributes to improved teacher satisfaction, confidence, effectiveness, and retention by providing consistent mentorship and helping new itinerant teachers successfully navigate their first year within the department
  • Other duties as assigned
  • May participate in extra-duty activities such as coaching, tutoring, or summer programs, as outlined in the Teachers’ Collective Bargaining Agreement and in accordance with Department of Labor regulations.

What You’ll Need:

  • Hold a Bachelor’s degree in Education or related field required.
  • A Master's Degree is only required for Concurrent Enrollment positions.
  • A minimum of one (1+) year of Itinerant teaching experience in the department in which candidate will serve as Itinerant New Teacher Ambassador within the department
  • Have a valid Colorado Department of Education (CDE) teaching license. Click here for additional information regarding specific requirements and qualifications for the various subject areas ( DPS does accept a CDE Application Receipt for 90 days)
  • Must meet all licensure and certification requirements for teacher role in the District
  • Must hold a District Itinerant Teacher position that is evaluated through the evaluation system aligned to the role of Itinerant teachers in their department and responsible for student outcomes in Infinite Campus by time of service (e.g. must be hired into a teaching role in order to be hired into a NTA role); Must participate in required training over the summer and during the school year
  • Lead for racial and educational excellence and work to dismantle systems of oppression and inequity in our community, along with believing in and supporting all students so they feel seen and heard with access to high quality education.
  • Live and work with a permanent home address in Colorado while working with us.
  • Have the ability with or without accommodations to meet the physical demands of the position.
