E02Responsible for implementing and delivering New Student Orientation (NSO) to provide a welcoming experience to new students. The coordinator collaborates with various departments and campus life to provide a comprehensive orientation program, oversees orientation events, and integrates campus resources. Additionally, the coordinator oversees the continuing improvement of the orientation process and utilizing data analysis, feedback, and college best practices.
MAJOR DUTIES
- Designing and implementing a comprehensive New Student Orientation program that fosters a welcoming and inclusive environment for new students.
- Plan, design, and implement an in-person large campus-wide NSO program.
- Collaborate with various departments (e.g., advising, student engagement, resource center, TRIO) to integrate their resources and support into the orientation program.
- Organize and oversee orientation events, including welcome sessions, and campus tours.
- Assist students and families with the NSO registration process.
- Revise and promote NSO publications and communication plans, including developing marketing materials and strategies to engage new students.
- Update NSO program with recent policies and student information.
- Assist in managing web content of Online Orientation module. Review for accuracy and changes for future improvements and to keep new students informed.
- Collaborates with the Dual Credit Coordinator to plan, coordinate, and deliver Dual Credit Orientation programs for students and families.
- Conducts ongoing research to stay up-to-date on new student on-boarding and college persistence best practices to enhance the overall new student experience.
- Prepare reports on orientation outcomes, attendance, and participant satisfaction to share with stakeholders and guide future improvements.
- Builds and maintains collaborative partnerships with campus and community stakeholders.
- Performs related duties as assigned.

- Knowledge of SJC Admission, Advising, and Financial Aid Processes Ability to student retention principles and practices.
- Knowledge of the characteristics of at-risk students.
- Knowledge of campus and community resources for students in need.
- Knowledge of basic coaching principles.
- Knowledge of and commitment to practicing privacy principles, including FERPA and other state and federal privacy guidelines.
- Knowledge of college policies and procedures.

SUPERVISORY CONTROLS
The Senior Director of Outreach, Advising and Retention assigns work in terms of general instructions. The supervisor spot-checks completed work for compliance with procedures, accuracy, and the nature and propriety of the final results. This position works with autonomy and uses judgment in decision-making.
GUIDELINES
Guidelines include the employee handbook and other college and department policies and procedures. These guidelines are generally clear and specific but may require some interpretation in application.
COMPLEXITY/SCOPE OF WORK
- The work consists of new student orientation coordination and planning. The unique needs of each student contribute to the complexity of the position.
- The purpose of this position is to perform specialized duties in support of student recruitment and retention programs. Success in this position contributes to student success, retention and degree completion.

- Contacts are typically with co-workers, other college personnel, faculty, staff, students, and members of the general public.

PHYSICAL DEMANDS/ WORK ENVIRONMENT
- The work is typically performed while sitting at a desk or table or while intermittently sitting, standing, or stooping. The employee occasionally lifts light and heavy objects.
- The work is typically performed in an office.
SUPERVISORY AND MANAGEMENT RESPONSIBILITY
This position supervises student workers.
MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS
- A Bachelor’s degree in a course of study related to the occupational field is required.
- The candidate must possess a strong background and at least one-year experience in coaching.
- Sufficient experience to understand the basic principles relevant to the major duties of the position, usually associated with having had a similar position for at least one year is required.
