Brightpoint Community College is a two-year public institution of higher education and is one of the largest of Virginia’s 23 community colleges. The college is located within the Greater Richmond metropolitan area. It serves students and the community at its two campuses, in Chester and Midlothian; online; and in locations throughout its service area. Brightpoint Community College invites applications for the Part-Time New Student Navigator position. This position will provide direct support to prospective and newly admitted students, with a particular focus on concurrent enrollment students, while also assisting with general onboarding, advising, and registration support for new and continuing students.
The part-time New Student Navigator/Advisor will:
- Assist concurrent enrollment students through the application, documentation, advising, and registration process.
- Review concurrent enrollment documentation, including high school permission forms, parent/guardian forms, transcripts, and placement-related materials as appropriate.
- Communicate with students and families regarding missing documentation, next steps, deadlines, and registration requirements.
- Provide general advising and onboarding support to new, returning, and continuing students.
- Assist students with course selection, registration steps, program information, holds, student account access, and college resources.
- Use Navigate, SIS, and other college systems to document student interactions, track progress, and support follow-up.
- Support Help Hub operations through virtual, phone, email, and in-person student assistance.
- Refer students to appropriate college resources, including financial aid, admissions and records, placement support, accessibility services, tutoring, and payment resources.
- Participate in onboarding events, registration support initiatives, and peak enrollment activities as needed.
- Maintain accurate records of student contacts and advising-related support.
- Provide excellent customer service while ensuring students receive accurate and consistent information.
Special Assignments
May be required to perform other duties as assigned. May be required to assist the agency or state government generally in the event of an emergency declaration by the Governor.
KSA's/Required Qualifications
Experience working with students, customers, or the public in an educational, advising, enrollment, or student services setting. Strong communication, organization, and problem-solving skills. Ability to explain complex processes clearly to students and families. Ability to manage multiple priorities in a fast-paced environment. Comfort using technology, databases, email, and student information systems. Commitment to student success, access, and reducing barriers to enrollment.
Additional Considerations
Significant experience working with high school or college students. Competency in customer relationship management ( CRM) software and/or student information systems. Expertise in one or more of the following : college admissions, advising, financial aid/services, etc.
