Position Title:

Neuropsychologist III

Department:

Psychiatry & Behavioral Sciences Clinic

An OU Health Neuropsychologist applies theories and principles of neuropsychology to evaluate and diagnose disorders of higher cerebral functioning and may formulate and administer programs of treatment.

Essential Responsibilities

Responsibilities listed in this section are core to the position. Inability to perform these responsibilities with or without an accommodation may result in disqualification from the position.

  • Performs neuropsychological evaluation of patients from a wide variety of neurological or medical illnesses that have implications for cognitive, behavioral or emotional functioning in individuals.

  • Provides consultation to physicians and other healthcare professionals regarding neuropsychological assessment and resulting cognitive, emotional or behavioral symptoms, and makes diagnostic, etiologic and treatment recommendations.

  • Diagnoses and treats illnesses of the central nervous system with cognitive, behavioral or emotional sequelae.

  • Works collaboratively with neurologic, neurosurgical, psychiatric and other healthcare professionals conducting assessments with individuals with central nervous system injuries or disease.

  • Works in collaboration with other providers performing interventional diagnostic and functional assessment (Wada testing, pre-surgical/ intraoperative brain mapping ,etc).

  • Conduct research and participates collaboratively in interdisciplinary research in patients with acute brain injuries, neurodegenerative disorders, developmental disorders or other medical conditions affecting the central nervous system.

  • Teaches, supervises and instructs, medical students, medical resident, and Interns in conducting neuropsychological assessment, neuroanatomy, functional neurology, and diseases affecting the center of a system.

  • Supervises Psychometrist in performing standardized test administrations and scoring of neuropsychological test batteries consistent with state law.

  • Works interdisciplinary in inpatient and outpatient settings, where patients are being treated or followed for diseases involving the central nervous system.

  • Provides treatment for the cognitive, behavioral and emotional symptoms and sequelae of central nervous system, trauma, diseases, and conditions.

General Responsibilities

Minimum Qualifications

Education Requirements

  • Doctorate (Ph.D. or Psy.D.): Psychology (Required).

Experience Requirements

  • Predoctoral Internship that meets or exceeds INS/APA division 40/Houston conference guidelines for specialty training in Neuropsychology.

  • Two-year specialty postdoctoral residency in clinical neuropsychology consistent with INS/APA division 40/Houston conference guidelines for specialty training in Neuropsychology.

  • 5 or more years in area of specialty.

License/Certification/Registration Requirements

  • Board certified or board eligible by ABPP/ABCN for board certification in clinical Neuropsychology.

  • Licensed or license eligible in Oklahoma by the state board of examiners of Psychology.

Knowledge/Skills/Abilities Requirements

  • Have knowledge of evidence-based psychological assessment, intervention, and consultation.

  • Have an interest in training/supervision of trainees in psychology and other disciplines.

  • Have experience in research, program development, and/or quality improvement.

  • The ability to combine pieces of information to form general rules or conclusions (includes finding a relationship among seemingly unrelated events).

  • The ability to communicate information and ideas in writing so others will understand.

  • The ability to listen to and understand information and ideas presented through spoken words and sentences.

  • The ability to communicate information and ideas in speaking so others will understand.
