The Utah State Hospital is seeking a qualified Neuropsychologist to work in Provo, UT to work in the treatment of mentally ill patients in our beautiful inpatient facility. In addition, candidates should be interested and comfortable providing didactics in a broad range of neuropsychology topics, have completed a two year fellowship in neuropsychology and be board certified or working towards board certification in neuropsychology.

Key Responsibilities

As a Neuropsychologist, you will provide professional psychological services in the areas of diagnostic testing and assessment, treatment plan development and implementation, program development and implementation, coordination of services and other related activities. The current position will work with adults in both a civil and forensic psychiatric setting, however, candidates with experience conducting evaluations of pediatric populations and who are comfortable supervising psychology trainees working with pediatric populations are preferred. Interested candidates should be comfortable and have some experience with supervision of trainees of all levels (practicum students, interns and post doctoral fellows).

Key Responsibilities

  • Conduct comprehensive and brief neuropsychological evaluations with a variety of individuals referred for long-term treatment of severe psychiatric issues.

  • Consult with treatment teams in both the civil and forensic adult population regarding neuropsychological services, treatment recommendations, acute and chronic presentation of symptoms, and behavior management.

  • Maintain appropriate and ethical documentation of patient encounters, including therapy notes, assessment reports and data notes.

  • Provide cognitive remediation through both group and individual treatment modalities.

  • Provide supervision of pre and post doctoral trainees with an interest in neuropsychology (both assessment and intervention).

  • Provide and participate in regular didactics for trainees seeking neuropsychology experiences.

  • Participate in psychology department training committee

  • Participate in med hearings for patients referred for forced medication compliance.

Qualifications

  • Doctoral degree (Ph.D. or PsyD) and graduation from an APA accredited program in clinical psychology

  • Completion of an internship with a neuropsychology emphasis and post doctoral fellowship in neuropsychology or related field.

  • Active psychologist license in the State of Utah.

  • Strong foundation in neuropsychological principles and concepts (e.g., neuroanatomy, cortical vs subcortical syndromes, lateralization, functional localization vs network dynamics, PVTs, etc.).



Preferences

  • Knowledge in cognitive remediation particularly with a SMI population.

  • Diagnostic differentiation of complex medical and psychiatric cases.

  • Capacity to work with difficult and treatment resistant patients.

  • Ability to work well with multidisciplinary teams.

  • Utah State Hospital provides comprehensive violence prevention and deescalation training for all employees during orientation. Ongoing training is provided to prioritize staff and patient safety.
