Job Description


The Schizophrenia and Community Integration Service (SCIS) provides specialized, recovery focused care to adults and older adults diagnosed with schizophrenia and related psychotic disorders and has a wide continuum of services including three tertiary inpatient units; a transitional outpatient program; an outpatient clinic; four assertive community treatment teams; early intervention for psychosis outpatient clinic; peer support; community treatment order program; and centralized rehabilitation services. The role of the SCIS neuropsychologist is to plan, conduct, guide and provide expert psychological and neuropsychological services in consultation to interprofessional treatment teams across all SCIS inpatient and outpatient programs in collaboration with other SCIS psychology staff and members of the centralized Clinical Neuropsychology Service. Professional services include providing evidence-based psychological and neuropsychological assessment and consultation, as well as psychological treatment, in line with the mission and values of St. Joseph’s Healthcare Hamilton. The psychologist plans, coordinates and provides related research and program evaluation activities within the SCIS. The psychologist takes a leadership role in education, clinical training and other academic activities within the program. The psychologist practices within the scope of declared competencies registered with the College of Psychologists and Behavioural Analysts of Ontario. Given that St. Joseph's Healthcare is affiliated with McMaster University, the psychologist is expected to engage in appropriate teaching and research activities and holds a faculty appointment within the Department of Psychiatry and Behavioural Neurosciences.

QUALIFICATIONS:
•Doctoral degree (PhD, PsyD, EdD) in Clinical Psychology or Clinical Neuropsychology required
•Registration or eligible for registration with the College of Psychologists and Behavioural Analysts of Ontario required
•Post-doctoral clinical experience in a hospital setting is an asset.
•1 year teaching and supervisory experiences at the undergraduate and graduate level.
•An established track record of academic productivity (e.g. peer reviewed publications, presentations at professional meetings).
•Demonstrated commitment to the values of Service, Responsible Stewardship, Community Responsiveness and Respect.
•Demonstrated compliance with the ethical and professional practice standards of the profession.
•Demonstrated skills and experience in delivery of evidence based psychological treatments; experience delivering Cognitive Behaviour Therapy for psychosis (CBTp) would be an asset.
•Demonstrated skills and experience in psychological and neuropsychological assessment.
•Demonstrated skills and experience in research in relevant areas of practice.
•Demonstrated ability to work effectively as a member of a multidisciplinary team, to collaborate with community resources and services, and to advocate for the needs of clients.
•Knowledge and proficiency in clinical research design and analysis.
•Skills and experience in clinical teaching, education, and research consistent with the requirements for faculty appointment to the Department of Psychiatry and Behavioural Neurosciences, McMaster University.
•Continuing academic productivity consistent with the requirements for future appointment to the rank of Associate Professor or Professor.
•Demonstrated interpersonal and supervisor skills required for the supervision of students, interns, residents, psychometrists, staff from other healthcare disciplines, and psychologists registered for supervised practice by the College of Psychologists and Behavioural Analysts of Ontario.
•Advanced oral and written communication skills required for assessment reports, scholarly presentations, and scholarly publications.
•Demonstrated knowledge, sensitivity and expertise in the care of seniors and their families.
•Training and experience with Gentle Persuasive Approach and/or Behavioural Therapy would be an asset.

RESPONSIBILITIES:
•Contributes to the corporate efforts and initiatives, as appropriate, to enhance SJHH’s mission, vision and values.
•Performs duties in a manner that demonstrates the employee’s commitment to developing a culture of patient and staff safety through accountability, reliability, trust and team work.
•Works in compliance of the Occupational Health & Safety Act and its regulations, reporting hazards, deficiencies and contraventions of the Act, in a timely manner.
•Maintains confidentiality and release of information in accordance with hospital policy at all times.
•Obligation to review and commit to applicable departmental and hospital policies and procedures at all times
•Plans, administers, and documents evidence-based psychological and neuropsychological assessments for SCIS inpatients and outpatients at St. Joseph’s Healthcare, West 5th Campus using an appropriate range of psychological tests, measures, and assessment methods.
•Plans, conducts, monitors, and documents evidence-based psychological treatments with individuals suffering from schizophrenia and related psychotic disorders and co-morbidities, using individual, group, and/or family-based modalities, including cognitive remediation and cognitive behavioural therapy for psychosis (CBTp). Uses evidence-based measures to assess outcomes.
•Participates in multidisciplinary team meetings to assist in the assessment, treatment planning, and evaluation of outcomes for patients.
•Maintains a faculty appointment in the Department of Psychiatry and Behavioural Neurosciences at McMaster University.
•Establishes and maintains an independent program of academic productivity including regular publication in peer-reviewed journals, presentations at national and international meetings, and obtaining peer-reviewed research funding.
•Is active in promoting the profession of psychology, as reflected by involvement in provincial, national, and international associations, editorial boards of professional journals, etc.
•Engages in professional development and continuing education.
•Participates in the administration of the Clinical Psychology Residency Program at St. Joseph's Healthcare.
•Supervises and trains learners (e.g., psychology practicum students, interns, and residents, psychiatry residents, post-doctoral fellows, candidates registered for supervised practice with the College of Psychologists and Behavioural Analysts of Ontario, etc.) to provide assessment and treatment services.
•Supervises, consults with, and trains professional staff (e.g., Psychologists, Psychological Associates, Psychometrists, members of other healthcare disciplines) in areas related to evidence-based assessment and treatment, research design, and methodology, as required.
•Provides opportunities for students and trainees to become involved in research and other academic activities.
•Provides didactic teaching (e.g., seminars, presentations, rounds) for learners enrolled at St. Joseph’s Healthcare, or in the Faculty of Health Sciences, McMaster University.
