Responsibilities

The Neurodiagnostic Technologist II is board eligible to sit for the American Board of Registration of Electroencephalographic and Evoked Potential Technologists, Inc. (ABRET) and proven competent to obtain a credential in electroencephalography (R. EEG T.). The Neurodiagnostic Technologist II has an expected level of competence and is able to independently perform duties with limited supervision and responsibilities for electroencephalography, recognizes clinically significant events and follows facility policy and procedures regarding critical test result. Strong well developed communication skills are essential for this position. The Neurodiagnostic Technologist II performs procedures according to ACNS guidelines. The Neurodiagnostic Technologist II Registered EEG technologist has the knowledge base to interact with the patient and obtain a quality, interpretable EEG recording that will yield information about the brain’s neuronal activity. The technologist possesses the appropriate knowledge level of diseases to correlate patient history and clinical symptoms to determine appropriate maneuvers to be performed during the EEG.

PRIMARY DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES

  • Ensures electrode application in adherence with the International 10–20 System.
  • Knowledgeable in correct EEG performance and recognition of clinically significant events and reports all critical test results to MD.
  • Maintains the patient’s safety through communication to other patient care support staff during the EEG if needed.
  • Knows contraindications for activation procedures.
  • Know how to properly use instrumentation settings including HFF and LFF.
  • Knows and recognizes drug and physiological status effects.
  • Communicates appropriately and effectively with the patient and healthcare staff to convey the purpose of the EEG and answers questions regarding the procedure.
  • Understands why and how to maintain correct electrode connections.
  • Identifies and performs basic and intermediate technical troubleshooting and artifact identification and elimination.
  • Understands and follows concepts of digital equipment and electrical safety within the department and when the portable unit is used.
  • Has knowledge of alternate montages, protocols, and alternate equipment settings.
  • Familiar with the facility policy and procedures for completion of the EEG Tracing, charging procedures, and notifying reading MD.
  • Notify supervisory staff as appropriate for problems within the EEG Department.
  • Stocks supplies and prepares patient rooms for EEG procedures; performs any other related duties that are consistent with patient and technical care for this level.
  • Practices proper safety techniques in accordance with hospital and departmental policies and procedures. Immediately reports any mechanical or electrical equipment malfunctions, unsafe conditions, or employee/patient/visitor injury accident to Manager.
  • Qualifications

    REQUIRED

  • Five years of performing EEG’s in a supervised clinical setting.
  • OR

  • REEGT and two years’ experience in electroencephalographic testing.
  • BLS certified.
  • PREFERRED

  • ICU application and seizure recognition.
  • NICU application and seizure recognition.
  • Work Hours:

    7am-7pm

    Weekend Requirements:
