Job Description

To perform standard electroneurodiagnostic procedures under the supervision of a Registered Electroneurodiagnostic .Technologist. To perform clerical duties as needed for department.

Responsibilities

  • Perform standard electroneurodiagnostic procedures as ordered and according to accepted policy and procedure.
  • Explain testing procedures to patients to obtain cooperation and reduce anxiety.
  • Monitor patients’ comfort and safety during tests, alerting physicians to abnormalities or changes in patient responses.
  • Obtain and record patient identification and medical history.
  • Adjust equipment and controls according to physicians’ orders or established protocol.
  • Prepare and position patients for testing.
  • Check, test, and maintain equipment, making minor repairs when necessary, to ensure proper operation.
  • Display ability to perform standard electroneurodiagnostic procedures on all age groups.
  • Display ability to establish a good rapport with customers and display care, concern, and confidentiality to customers.
  • Organize and plan work according to priorities established by departmental standards.
  • Communicate effectively with nursing floors and escort concerning patient matters.
  • Be prepared for emergency situations which may arise while patient is in the department. Annual recertification in CPR is required.
  • Must be adaptive and flexible to handle situations because of emergencies, changing workload, personnel shortages, new instrumentation, new procedures, changes in procedures, disasters, and/or unsuspected events.
  • Must be motivated to perform at a high degree of accuracy and efficiency.
  • Must be mentally alert and perceptive to problems that arise through irregularities in procedure and/or instrumentation and report immediately to the Supervisor.
  • Must be able to make decisions using independent judgment and to discuss with others opportunities which arise and possible solutions. Displays accountability.
  • Must have basic understanding of EEG to monitor Long Term patients.
  • Must have a basic understanding of neuroanatomy, electronics, and neurodiagnostic instrumentation.
  • Must keep recording room, instruments, and materials used clean and in good and safe working condition.
  • Perform clerical duties for department such as processing, log sheets, typing, faxing reports, recording meeting minutes, and answering phone.
  • Able to take call according to policy.
  • Responsible for checking email each shift and for communicating with Co-Workers and Supervisors.

    • Requires use of electronic mail, time and attendance software, learning management software and intranet.
    • Must adhere to all DCH Health System policies and procedures.
    • All other duties as assigned.

    Qualifications

    High school diploma or equivalent, and completion of training from an accredited EEG Technology program or at least one (1) year on-the-job training under the direction of a Registered Electroneurodiagnostic Technologist. Must be able to read, write legibly, speak and comprehend English.

    Requires working with patients who have health issues.

    Exposure to disease, infection and body fluid may occur.

    PHYSICAL FACTORS

    Frequently able to stand, walk, kneel, sit, bend or crouch with good balance.

    Ability to sit in front of a computer monitor in a quiet room more than half the time while remaining vigilant.

    Must be able to maneuver over uneven or rough surfaces.

    Must be able to ascend and descend stairs.

    Must be able to carry objects weighing up to 25 lbs. for 50 feet.

    Assist in turning and positioning patients weighing up to and beyond 200 lbs.

    Must be able to reach overhead to retrieve and/or replace objects.

    Must be able to perform the duties with or without reasonable accommodation.

    Hearing and vision must be normal or corrected to within normal range.

    Physical presence onsite is essential.
