Job Title: Network Technician, Junior

Under general direction, participate in the installation and support of network communications, including LAN/WAN systems. Support work on complex problems where analysis of situation requires in-depth evaluation of various factors. Help plan large scale systems projects through vendor comparison and cost studies. Requires knowledge of LAN/WAN systems, networks and applications.

Responsibility

• Assist with security measures to protect the network from cyber threats and unauthorized access.
• Assist in the installation and configuration of network hardware and software.
• Diagnose and resolve network issues, escalating complex problems to senior technicians as needed.
• Monitor network performance and report any anomalies or issues.
• Assist with routine maintenance tasks to ensure network reliability and performance.
• Maintain documentation of network configurations, changes, and incidents.
• Provide technical support to other IT technicians as well as end-users support, addressing network-related queries and issues.
• Assist in the planning and execution of network upgrades and updated
• Ensure network operations comply with organizational policies and industry standards
• Respond to Service Incidents as assigned within required SLA’s
• On-Call availability is required

Academic/Educational Requirements

• A current network certification is preferred
• A diploma/degree from a recognized college/university or equivalent experience is required

Required Skills/Experience

• ITIL and COBIT knowledge is preferred
• 1 - 3 years technical experience supporting the following is preferred:
• Network hardware and software – switches, routers; preferably Extreme Networks, Aruba
• Wireless networking experience; preferably Extreme or Aruba
• Knowledge and understanding of Network protocols such as TCP/IP, DNS, DHCP, SNMP, HTTP, VoIP, SIP, H323, SSH, multicast vs unicast. Experience with tools such as Wireshark would be preferred
• Knowledge of Global networks, using various methods such as internet VPN, BGP, VPLS, EPL, SD-WAN, etc.
• Knowledge of Next Gen Firewalls such as Fortinet, Palo Alto etc
• Management systems Such as Extreme XMC, other vendor specific management systems
• Microsoft Windows Server operating systems
• Microsoft Desktop Operating Systems
• Knowledge of Microsoft Active Directory
• Telephony (Legacy and IP); preferably Avaya IP Office
• Experience working in an IT department with ITIL processes in a helpdesk system
• Experience with OT/manufacturing/shopfloor systems is beneficial
